Uncle Flo,
A special edition of Scientific American is titled "Our Ever Changing Earth." Nicholas Pinter and Mark T. Branson have an article "How Erosion Builds Mountains" that explores among other factors the place of isostasy in the formation of mountains. The authors write about complex interplays between erosion, climate, tectonics, and isostasy. I quick read in in the bathtub but will reread it later.
The interplay of erosion and isostasy is especially interesting.
