Turned Down

Post by plix (imported) »

Just recently I received an e-mail from Anne Lawrence informing me that she no longer prescribes to self-medicators. This means I won't be going to see her, as I do not have the necessary letter :(

Most likely I will have to continue self-medicating until I can afford 3 months of therapy and am willing to take that 1 and 1/2 hr each way train ride to LA. It isn't so bad though. Since I am already castrated I get to take lower estrogen doses and no anti-androgens. Were I taking the usual 8 mg of estrogen and 200 mg of Spiro, things would be much more dangerous.

Do doctors no longer prescribe to self-medicators? They used to. But things are changing everyday. Or is it just Anne?

I could try one of the big names in LA and see if he'd prescribe to me, but many of us know how costly that would be. I'd have to go see him more frequently, making it even more costly.

My GP has recently stopped prescribing anything without an office visit. I think this is mostly to protect him from lawsuits but of course it does increase his revenue also.

I called an LA doctor who specializes in treating transsexuals only to discover he is not willing to help either.

He says he is aware that the SoC allow a doctor to prescribe to self-medicators without a letter, but it only applies when the person has been taking hormones for many years. I have only been taking them for a month.

I was in preop when my urologist decided not to castrate me. :( That was a real blow to me. Had my friends with me at the hospital waiting for my castration. You will get it done just I and so many others have. It will just take a while. Wish you luck.

I have no idea what's going to happen because not even a TS specialist doctor is willing to help me. I guess I should be in therapy working on a letter, but the finances, time, and distance can really get in the way.

So far all the LA therapists (LA is the only place I can find TS therapists) have either

-Said they would come out here to my city to see me and then changed their minds

-Refused to approve hormones even after diagnosing me with GID

-Been too expensive (I've been quoted prices as high as $200/hr.)

-Been unable to see me at a time public transportation can get me out there

Basically what this comes down to is I can't get a letter or a doctor who will help me without one. It's not too dangerous since I'm only taking 2mg with no anti-androgens, but it's mostly quality of foreign meds that I'm worried about. I'd rather be getting American hormones.
