Very swollen chords after surgery

Post by sarahthompson99 (imported) »

Hi,

Its been 1 week since my surgery and all the reddish blue discoloration is gone from the scrotum and no pain , however my left chord is very swollen. The whole scrotum fills almost as full now as it did before surgery. I am wondering how common this is and if any others had a similar experience?.

Also how long till the swelling goes away? I have had hardly no drainage since surgery even with sitz baths and worry about blood building up in the chords and scrotum and becoming an infection later on. I have been on the antibiotic levaquin ever since surgery and plan on taking it for another 2-3 weeks. Any comments?.

Thanks,

Sarah

It's been two months since my surgery and, no, didn't have your experience. Not sure what to say, but let's get things rolling:

- What did Dr. Kimmel say about it?

- Have you had any fever? Of the little drainage you've had, is it white/yellow/green? (All signs of infection)

- Is the swelling tugging on the stitches? (That would be bad.)

- Have you been keeping your feet elevated (to hip height) as much as possible? The Dr. said to do this for 2 weeks.

Hoping these questions and your answers jog the memories of others. Praying for your healthy recovery,

Sarah,

I would give it at least three weeks before you start worrying about the swollen cords they will be swolen for a few months. Like I said before in the other thread, Your cords have had ONE HELL of a bad day, give them time to heal. I am 2 months along from my last surgery and I still have a swolen cord on the left. If you are that worried about this...CALL Dr. Kimmel!!!!

Hi,

I did call Dr Kimmel and he feels that this is normal like you said.

Its just strange that the right side is ok , but the left seems huge.

He did have to give several extra shots of lidocaine in the chord so hopefully Its just a reaction to the medication.

No no signs of infection yet. I have been on levaquin for a week now and expect to remain on it for at least 3 more weeks. I actually have not had much drainage if you can call it that even after the 3 sitz baths.

I guess I have been more active than I should have been having flown home the day after surgery and going to church for a couple of hrs Sunday.

Its very hard for me to stay down long more than 3-4 hrs at a time. Laying in bed too long makes my back hurt so I get up for a few minutes and then go back to bed again.

So is there fluid in the chords that are making them swell?. Dr Kimmel told me I could take Naprosyn for pain since it is similar to ibuprofen. Naprosyn is also good for inflamation, but it is in the same class as asprin and can cause bleeding.

Thanks,

Sarah
