Re: Is Kimmel the best way to go?
Hello I had back surgery in May,2007, I had L2-T11 with a spinal fusion (2 rods) I am now wondering what concerns I should have while having a chemical castraion. I was planning have it,but now I am not so sure. Any input would be appreciated.

I think this question would be best answered by a TS friendly Endocrinologist. I think that after a surgery that involves bone needing to heal, you need to be careful when using chemicals that might inhibit the healing process. I am somewhat in the same boat. I have been surgically castrated and need to either stop injecting testosterone or cut way back. I have GID and the testosterone seems to be making my symptoms worse. My wife has located an Endocrinologist that deals with gender issues. I am going to see him in a couple weeks to see if he can help with my GID problems and my post-op back healing problems. I would think that testosterone plays an important roll in bone health and if it is removed, something else need to take it's place. Hopefully I will know more after Dec. 7th.

I seem to remember reading here on EA that Kimmel does not do penectomies. Your best chance of getting it done is in Thailand or maybe India. The only reason they do it in the US, is for medical reasons such as urethral cancer. Start typing penectomy in Google and you'll find some interesting stuff.

I agree. I believe that for good bone health there needs to be some type of hormone in place, be it male or female.

Re: Is Kimmel the best way to go?
I saw an Endocrinologist a couple weeks ago. I told him my last T injection was Oct. 19th. He told me that if I haven't had any hot flashes yet, I probably wouldn't get them. So far so good. Actually I have been feeling pretty good. Everything still works, but not quite as well. I also haven't been having the obsessive, wanting to be a woman, feelings. The doctor started me on Fosamax for my bone strength. They took some blood tests to see where I'm at. I think he will want me to use some transdurmal T so I can better control the amount I get. I don't really think that the Estrogen route would be right for me. I just want to be at peace with what I am and be healthy. If I can do that with little or no T, I'll be happy. I am still taking some pain meds, so I don't know how that is effecting things other than suppressing erections. When I'm in between pain pills, things work better. The feelings I have now are a lot different than those I had when I was on Depo-provera. The DP probably got rid of all my T and caused feelings that I didn't like. Maybe I have an over active Adrenal Gland. I could live with how I feel now. I'll know more when I see the doc again in a couple weeks.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Re: Is Kimmel the best way to go?
The back is doing a lot better. I am down to taking one 10mg Oxycodone at night. I am hopeful that I will be able to stop that soon. I think the remainder of my pain is caused by mussel atrophy. After I see my surgeon on Thursday, I should be able to start physical therapy to solve that problem. The really good news for me is that I was granted a Occupational Disability from my job, so that's a big worry off my mind. I'll miss running trains and the people I worked with, but it is sure nice being able to sleep at night.

Re: Is Kimmel the best way to go?
I am surprised about your story Hairless because I have the same relation to the testicles as you.
I do not want to be a woman feel like a man but dislike my testicles. I'm glad you wrote your story because I know that my feelings do not just me. I want smooth place under my penis or at least empty sac. But it is not easy to opt for castration because I am healthy and I am afraid of health problems. So I would be castrated after my 50. It is not easy to decide and find a doctor here in Europe. I would like to be castrated in a hospital under medical supervision. I need support from my family too.
Thanks, Orchiday
