Re: Is Kimmel the best way to go?
I've got 2 Bassett Hounds, will they work?
Went to see my GP today. He is very supportive. He wants me to see a psychiatrist before I do anything. If he says castration will help me, my GP said he will support me. At least he didn't freak.
Thanks again guys for your input.

I would like to see a poll of the number who were castrated by either Spector or Kimmel and those done some other way (i.e. a cutter or another urologist or self castration). I expect that Spector/Kimmel have castrated far more than any other way. The numbers will tell the truth.

Re: Is Kimmel the best way to go?
From what I've read, the main problem with many castrations is that the cords can attach themselves where they don't belong. Can you request that the Dr. cut them off really short so that doesn't happen? I would imagine it would be easier to cut them short with the scrotam removed. Has there ever been a poll to see how many have had this problem?
Currently my situation is on hold. I'm waiting for my GP or HMO to find a shrink that is knowledgeable about my "problem". That is the way my GP wants me to go.I also have an appointment with a urologist in Palm Springs to see if he is willing to help me. My wife made the appointment while I was away at work, I drive trains. She told the nurse, male, I was having pain in my testicles and told him I wanted to be castrated. He said the Dr. might do it for me and wanted me to bring in a copy of my saunagram that was done after I had a bout with epididamitis and prostritis. Please excuse my spelling. The kicker here is that there is a scar on my spermatic cords from my being stupid. I did an expirimental cord crushing with a pair on needle nose pliers to see if I thought I could stand a burdizzo clamping. I was in so much pain I wanted to turn them off. I never thought I did it hard enough to make a scar. The Urologist I was seeing at the time, after seeing the pictures, looked at me like I was a worm and ask me, "what do you want me to do for you?" I was so put off by the way he said it and his attitude I played dumb, like I didn't know what he was talking about. I may have lost a good opportunity. I just didn't like his attitude. This is something my wife doesn't know about. This might help or hurt my position with the new Doctor. If he does deside to help me, it would be nice if I could get my insurance to pay for it.

Yep, been there, done that.
Don't get your hopes up.
The chronic pain thing isn't something that any doctor is going to take seriously, and I'd be enormously surprised to find yours doing so.
To make a very long story short, I saw 9 doctors and ate enough Aleve, Tylenol, Excedrin, etc., to blow out a mule's liver before I finally got to the point of being damn near suicidal over it.
THAT problem was answered with an offer of Prozac. The mention of castration brought about an offer to see a shrink.
Talula and the others will probably remember those days of endless pain med/antibiotic therapy for over six months.
Fortunately, I was able to adapt and find some relief, since none of the doctors I saw took me seriously and just wanted to "explore" because it was so odd.
I still wish you luck, though, and wonder how many other men out there have run into the same brick wall with chronic pain/inflammation and recurring infections.

Re: Is Kimmel the best way to go?
Hi,
Just had my surgery last week ( June 1st ) from Dr Kimmel. So far I feel great except for the chords still being quite swollen. Just wondered how long I can expect this to last. Also for those of you that have had problems in the past how long before they showed up.
Thanks,
Sarah

Re: Is Kimmel the best way to go?
the cords will be sore and annoying for several months they have just had one HELL of a bad day and are going to be pissed at you for a while but don't worry it will go away. if by chance you have adhesions forming they will show up in the first two to three months. keep up on the post op recomendations follow them religeously. don't fiddle too much (I know you want to) that can be a cause of adhesions. take it easy and enjoy the pain meds (sleep good). BTW WELCOME to the family >:)<

Re: Is Kimmel the best way to go?
Went to see my psycologist the other day and we had a good talk. He is really a great guy. We were blessed to find him. We are in agreement that castration will be right for me . Tomorrow I am going to see him again and he is going to write me a recommendation for surgery. With that in hand, I am going to see the urologist on the 24th. I sure hope this all works out so I can have it done locally. The urologist's nurse seemed to think, with a letter from my psycologist, it is a possibility. Hold good thoughts for me, Steve

Re: Is Kimmel the best way to go?
Hi guys,
The urologist in Palm Springs, after stringing me along for a month, said no. We are now in contact with Dr. Alter in Beverly Hills. He is one of two doctors in the US that are board certified in urology and plastic surgery. I sent him my info and psycologist letter and told him what my desires were. He said he would probably be able to help me but he needs a second psycologist evaluation before he could do so. California state law. Maybe I can get a note from Arnie. I wanted to get this taken care of while on vacation this summer, for healing time. I don't see how this can happen unless I go with Dr. Kimmel. After warnings from Big Twin and others I find the good doctor's reputation a little scarry. How can there be such a contrast between these reports and the glowing reports from Phil and Bubba? I want this done, but what should I do. I'm running out of time for this year.
