Andropause

Post by Blaise (imported) »

I feel that andropause or something very much like it came to me when I was about 49 (I am now almost 62). My former wife noticed the loss long before I noticed it.

Yet, eventually, after a delightful sexual life in marriage, I felt the loss, On the other hand, as I said repeatedly here that the loss of libido and sexual play was both a boon and a profound loss. Sexual longing and consumation is how we most profoundly relate to other human beings.

I did develop cardiac problems, potential prostate problems, and diabetes after andropause. I have no idea what the relationship is or is not.

I do grasp why one might want to reduce libido and maybe enjoy other gains (?) by castration, but I wonder how many of us really want that loss.

First you should check just what your testosterone levels is. If they are at or near zero then no need to go on chemical castrations or being castrated. If they are very low you may want to take some testosterone for a while to see if you like that again.

I for one have been on chemical castration [androcur] for 26+ months. My Testosterone levels are at 25. I like almost all the effects of castration. I will be castrated this spring if all goes well. :D

You don't say what happened to your BFI (body fat index) following falling off of libido. I have a hunch that you would've definitely benefitted physically and perhaps mitigated or put off indefinitely the other symptoms you describe if you'd had the andropause treated.

I experienced a definite slump in testosterone production in my early 50s. I noted it and had it diagnosed and then treated - HRT. I'm so glad I did. I'm active physically and feel better mentally for it. I've reduced my pulse (standing) from about 66 to 58 and maintained blood pressure at 110/70. Almost all my colleagues at work think I'm 10-15 years younger than I am.

I agree. I fully agree. When I took HRT a year or so ago, I did feel much better.

I had a low BFI for many years. That changed with I began taking medication for depression. Now 17 years later, my BFI is much higher. I am working on that with a nurse.

I now have prostate cancer. That clouds what to do next.

You have prostate cancer? I'm really sorry. What was your PSA when they detected it? When you took HRT was it estrogen-based or testosterone?

IF they caught it in time the best treatment is the proton beam at Loma Linda, CA. It totally preserves the nerves better than the freezing method. You should really look into it.

A question: did you go for any periods of time in your life without ejaculating?

Once again, my thoughts are with you, please keep us informed.

Thank you for your insight and suggestions. I appreciate them You told me more than I now know. I have had a period without ejaculating. HRT was testosterone. Again, thank you. [/

Well, it turns out that I do not have prostate cancer. False report. I am grateful for more time without it.
