Fear of Posting?

For a long while, I’ve been noticing that the same few names keep appearing on most of the posts on the Archive. I finally sat down to do some figuring.

The Eunuch Archive has nearly 7,000 registered members. As of today, only 1,011 have made even a single post. Only 633 have made two or more posts. The top 25 post-happy members have made over 50% of all the posts on the Archive, 18,782 of them. That’s less than one-third of one percent of all the members making 50% of the posts!

If you break down and make only a SINGLE post to the Archive, you are automatically in the top one-sixth of all the registered members here. If you can push yourself to make a second post, you’ve reached the top 10%.

I’m sure that most of those who read the Archive (which can be done without registering) and who have then taken the time to register their membership have questions to ask or comments to make. We are one of the friendliest and most helpful places that I’ve found anywhere on the Internet. We value your comments and will try to find answers to your questions.

Any post that you make is nearly anonymous. It can be traced back only as far as the name you’ve chosen for yourself and the information that you gave when you set up your account, such as your birthday, if you listed it.

Whew, now I don't feel so bad. A few minutes a go I was afraid to ask Macthewolf what "circe" means. He has a thread about Robyn being released from jail this month. The FBI charged them with circe of a minor? I guess I'm not the sharpes knife in the drawer.

I would guess that, for a lot of people who have the castration urge, logging into this forum seems to them like a kind of admission that they have that urge--so they are somewhat furtive about the whole thing.

For those of us for whom this is a kind of sociological or historical interest--myself, Jesus, I guess A-1, and surely others--there is no emotional commitment involved in logging in or posting. We're just here looking in on something which is interesting to us. I always felt posting was just a matter of joining in and participating in something which is a legitimate subject of discussion.

One thing I do wonder about--because of the fact that it's difficult to get people to post, I have sometimes refrained from correcting mistakes in posts. Some of the mistakes were really absurd, and were in contradiction to something I had posted. But I didn't make the corrections, because I thought that might deter the person who made the mistake, from posting again. Of course, this sort of thing can lead to the perpetuation of errors. Still, I don't think I will start correcting mistakes in other folks' posts. Anybody who finds errors in my posts is welcome to correct them.

I don't know how a hard drive is constructed, so I don't know if the disc(s) is/are shielded from external magnetic fields. What I am driving at is, if push came to shove and it were necessary to destroy all data on a hard drive, could it be accomplished by using a magnetic tape bulk eraser ? The 60 hz alternating magnetic field certainly wipes cassettes and open-reel tapes very clean. There is nothing but white noise on them afterward.

No you can't get the media in the hard drive as close as needed. Not even the video tape bulk eraser will do the job. You have to disassemble the drive to erase the data on the drive platters a side at a time. Even if you did it a lab. can recover the data unless you damage the magnetic coating.
