new hair growth

Post by bigtwin (imported) »

Ok,once and for all.four months now and I do have some regrowth of hair on the scalp. My question is does estrogen play any role at all or not?

Any idea if the regrowth will stop since I discontinued the estradiol?thanx [twin]

Twin,

I would agree that testosterone halts the receeding hairline. Estrogen may further reduce the effects of testosterone and help to regrow some hair. It's most likey YMWV, as with any effects of castration.

The amount of hair that stays on your head is mostly determined by the difference in the growth rate versus the fall out rate, and these rates vary at different places on the scalp (hence pattern baldness).

Testosterone converts to a related hormone that triggers people who are genetically predisposed for male pattern baldness. If you don't have the genetic predispositon for male pattern baldness this is a non-issue; for the rest of us it can be fairly distressing.

This is a serious problem for female bodybuilders who take steroids, as well as for MTF transsexuals, as the male pattern hair loss is a significant factor in our perception of male versus female aesthetics.

In any case, as soon as the testosterone levels drop to castrate/female levels then your baldness pattern will stop growing and you should see regrowth in the follicles that have not entirely shut down. I'd also suggest Rogain (minoxydil) -- once the balding has been stopped by castration it should help a fair bit.

ok,now I;m confused even more.my adrenal glands are still producing a small amount of testosterone which still could be converted to dht right?Well if so wouldn't taking estradiol be benifitial due to the increased receptor sites for it rather than the testosterone?I also read that taking proscar or propecia increases the testosterone levels by stoping the conversion of it to dht. That would not be cool either.-[twin]
