Norton Utilities 2003-2004

In an earlier post I noted that I had problems with the McAfee rather than Norton- serves me right! Norton has completely taken my computer out for the last two days- even now it is still getting in the way and still taken over- as it does. One cure is to make the E Mails text only- the difference in speed alone is quite astonishing, mind you I am not out of the woods yet.

I've still got a Norton firewall thing in my Common Files that is still starting up with Windows 2000. It's not IN the startup manager, and I can't even force quit it when running...even in Administrator mode!

Oh well. It doesn't seem to be causing too much trouble.

One problem I did notice right off with McAfee's Suite is is that it cut about 100 off of my usual DSL speeds. I'm only running in the 300's range now.

Norton utilities are famous for not uninstalling correctly, so don't feel you're the only one with that problem.

Just don't try to use that particular procedure if your version is not 2003, because it will cause more problems than it solves.

Another idea - I got hit at work with spyware and the helpdesk and I had to work in unison to delete the spyware from the "services" list that loads automatically and within seconds of that delete the executable file. Only then would the file not reestablish itself.

Look in "services" and see if the executable is loading on boot from there.
