My former boyfriend was almost completely bald by the time he was 19. He started on Rogaine and Propecia and regrew almost all his hair, to the extent that it was almost impossible to tell he had ever lost it. When he ran out of money and quit taking the Propecia, though, it all fell out again. Now, following my example, he ordered some of the generic finasteride from Inhouse Drugstore.....so, we hope he gets his back again, soon. He started on the drugs very young, though, so that may be why he had such a steller result.

Kelly, is Dutasteride available in the US or do you get it through a website? Since I my doctor prescribed me the Finasteride and the Spironolactone, I could talk to him about switching to Dutasteride.

Thanks!!!

Dutasteride is available in the US, under the brand name Avodart. Is more expensive than finasteride. Perhaps generic is also available in the country.

Also available at:

Thanks so much, Erika. The price for generic dutasteride seems the same price I was paying for Propecia, so it is not much of a change. Except that right now I have about 6 months worth of generic Proscar... so I am thinking I am going to finish that up first and then do the switch, I hate to throw money away. Even getting it with a prescription, it will most likely not be covered by most insurance companies... grrrr.

One thing to consider when taking Proscar/Propecia/Rogaine (all finasteride) is that a percentage of users, estimated at around 5-8%, will experience permanent and irreversible impotence. I can attest to that as it happened to me. You can do a web search and find confirmation of this.

Spironolactone was garbage for me, and anyone I've convinced into switching anti androgens was glad they did, so far at least. I advise either going for another medicine available locally, or ordering cyproterone acetate online.

To each their own. About estrogen and libido, it strongly depends on the individual. A lower dose is a safer bet if you like low libido, but it's nothing like testosterone in regards to libido.
