What I meant is that did Bboy think, at the time he wrote the message, that he would be able to do it in the future or did he mean that he could do it at that time.
I think that if you read Paolo's post carefully, you will realise that he said Bboy had actually done it on occasion but did not want to have to do it on a regular basis because of the difficulty.
You are correct in your assumption that he would be moving the story logically rather than physically. From my experience with databases I would guess that there is a danger that if the move is not done correctly, the story will disappear into a black hole and probably never be seen again.

How I would interpret "physically" moving things around would be to change or manipulate the code associated with the object I wanted to move, rather than use an already established tool. BBoy likely had access to the raw code, whereas Paolo and the other administrators may not-besides, I would be reluctant to change any code without good reason. There can be unintended results.

OK, for anyone who doesn't know, The Archive is huge. Absolutely monstrous in terms of folders, programs, and code running amok on this poor little box. What you see on the index page, the Boards here, and the story index pages is is much like staring at the dash of a car and having no clue what's under the hood.
Most of us can drive, but few of us can overhaul a motor.
Now, think about working on that motor while the car is still running.
From what B. and I discussed at length, "transplanting" elements of The Archive was simply not a good idea. On more than one occassion, B. made mistakes. Talula has made mistakes before, and I once shut down the whole damn server by accident once.
Moving stories does involve changing code therein and actually moving the story into another directory.
If you've ever hit CUT/PASTE and found nothing to PASTE when you did it, you'll understand this.
For what it's worth, it's simply not worth the risk - especially when one isn't 100% sure of what one is doing.
And remember, B. knew this server inside and out and HE screwed it up a few times.
I would simply ask, with what we're going through right now, to please keep the special requests and complaints to a minimum. Let's face it people, Talula may be the God of Scripting, but he's only human. Passions and emotions are sort of touchy right now, so let's all try and be a bit considerate.
Thanks.
