I don't know about taking hormones. I used to take estrogen and spironolactone, but had to quit the spiro because it wreaked havoc with my blood pressure. As for the estrogen, I decided I really didn't want to undergo the whole sex change. What I'm looking for is to be kind of sexless. I want to reduce my male characteristics, but not gain any new feminine ones. Is there a minimal dose of estrogen one can take that will prevent bone loss, but not cause feminization? Anyone advice from a post op with experience with this would be most appreciated.

Osteoporosis and Drugs
I know that there are drugs (ie Fosamax) that will help treat/prevent osteoporosis. Do these work indefinitely, or will the effects ever wear off? I am 24 now, and I fear having surgery and ending up with brittle bones in the near future. If you take that Fosomax once-a-week regimen, will it prevent bone loss entirely or just slow it down?

To prevent osteoporosis with out taking any hormones, very hard to do. Not taking any hormones and not having ones testicles is going to cause feminization anyway. The amount of gynecomastia and body shape change is genictic and can very radically. The only drug that blocks both testosterone and estrogen is Depo Provera, and is said by users to be non-feminizing. I was not taking anything and got a large fem butt gained alot of wieght before I was told I had low testosterone, also my gynecomastia is still with me and a little larger even on HRT.

Hi wernotafraid! The best person to answer this is Sag.Although ,I don't think you can have it all way's.I think Sag takes 1.25 a day of Premarin because of hot flash's.You could try .625 mg.s a day. That would probably be min. Most don't like Premarin although I do.I take it your post orchiectomy.Hugs,Leona

Osteoporosis, Taking Fosamax once a week helps grow new bone. You should also take at least 1000 mg of calcium daily except the day you take the Fosamax. It is just like a lot of things in life, what is your goal, what do you need to do to get there. If you want to be a eunuch, there is a price to pay.

Re: Osteoporosis and Drugs
hi,
As a eunuch, you need to take something to replace the testosterone. If your not taking any HRT, you neen to take calcium.
ALL eunuchs should have a bone scan every couple of years.
I have osteoporosis and take fosomax every week. My next bone scan should put me back in the green.
Good luck Marca, hope you get back into the green soon.
