Looking for chemical/hormone advice

Post by Donos (imported) »

Hi there. I hope nobody minds my posting here, as I'm not technically seeking castration, chemical or otherwise. (I found these boards via a Yahoo search on Spironolactone).

I'm a 23 year old male and an occasional crossdresser. I'm fairly sure that I'm not transsexual, as I'm happy living as a male and transsexuals are generally unhappy with their birth sex, but I wouldn't describe myself as just a transvestite either. I would like to make changes to my body to feminise it without becoming completely female. I suppose 'androgynous' is the term I'd use for what I wish to be. A professional examination classed me as having an androgynous mind and I want to change my body to reflect that.

On looking at the FAQ, the physical effects of castration are almost exactly what I want to gain, and the 'side effects' - the normal desired effects of castration such as reduced sex drive - are also things I would welcome. I don't want to undergo surgery, so chemical castration is the path I'm looking at. I don't want to be permanently sterile, however. While I have no desire for children at the moment, there's always the possibility in future, and I hear some of the more powerful chemicals such as Androcur or Depo-Provera cause permanent changes.

Basically, I'm looking for advice. What should I be looking for in chemical castration that won't be permanent? (Basically, things return to normal after some time when treatment is stopped.) Also, is there a major difference between brand name products and generic? The price difference on Spironolactone, for example, can vary as much as £20 for the same amount.

Don't exceed three to six months duration.

Generics are supposed to be identical to brand names in enough ways so as to substitute for brand names.

Also, please read the forums and use the search functions as your questions are common enough that they would have had tons of answers by now.

Welcome Donos,

Most any of the castration drugs mentioned will, in effect, make you sterile over time. Even Spironolactone, which is the least expensive of the 3 most popular ones and possibly the weakest, will have it's effects upon you. All will have some form of side effect, so be careful.

I would caution you to think things through a little more before comming to a decision on this. There's plenty of reading here on this subject. You are still young and don't want to do something now that you may later regret.

Some of the options you might consider would be taking a very low doses. This may or may not reduce the testosterone to a level you feel comfortable with and yet not make you sterile at the same time. A sperm bank is another option also, but that probably could get expensive in the long run. Even taking just female hormones to mildly feminize yourself could cause sterility.

Perhaps some others will post suggestions for you. If you need a specific question answered, you'll find many of us willing to help.

Hi Donos,

There is a plethora of information in this website regarding dosage, effects, etc on many testosterone blockers and also feminizing products. They are very good as a guideline, but as any doctor will tell you, the same medication/dosage will not necessarily have the same effect on everybody.

This is my little story on the subject: I am a straight male, and similarly like you, I like the androgynous look. I enjoy 'chastity play' with my girlfriend, so the reduced sex drive of the medications is something I would welcome. I have been on Spironolactone for a long while now, and though spontaneous erections were somewhat reduced, regular sexual functions remained at the same level as before. To top that, I was recently in a car accident and spent 2 weeks in the hospital without taking the medication. After the first 10-12 days, my spontaneous erections came back to the same level as before.

Anyhow, whatever you decide doing/trying/taking, I would definitely check with a doctor before and during your treatment. First, to make sure you have the right dosage and no interferences with anything else you may be taking. But also important is to check your liver functions regularly. Some of these medications may (or may not) affect your liver. With Spironolactone, for example, it is also important to monitor the Potassium levels (they may rise) and the blood pressure (it may drop).

I hope you find here all the answers you were looking for. I am fairly new here, and don't know all products available, but since I have been taking Spironolactone, I've researched that one for a while.
