Hydrocele on testicle?

Post by T. Willy (imported) »

I have a large hydrocele (feels like a water ballon) on a testicle. The doctor says it is not a problem, but it can be removed if it bothers? Anyone have experience with this and what is best to do?

I've had that. At first it is generally just annoying, but in my case it kept getting larger. By the time I went to see the doctor, it was the size of a grapefruit and had been making it hard to walk. While it is kinda fun to have testicles that size, I had to do something.

Note that the video showing an Indian man with balls so huge he can sit on them like a water bed has hydrocele (some people think that he has elephantitis, but that looks different -- his are definitely just the result of untreated hydrocele).

In any case, doctors won't do much until it gets fairly big. The lancing treatment (to temporarily drain it) is not used by urologists anymore, although in my case my general practicioner did do that once (the urologist was kind of miffed that he did it -- apparently the risk of infection is not considered acceptable anymore).

I ultimately got a surgery where the urologist cuts the membrane, drains the fluid, then folds over the membrane and sews it back up in a way that it no longer can collect fluid from your adominal cavity.

My suggestion is to wait until it is about grapefruit size (have fun with it while you have it) then insist on getting it fully treated.

Cheers!

Thanks for the comments. Wow, the size of a grapefruit! Mine is only about 2 inches around so I guess I shouldn't complain. I think I will try poking it with a clean needle to drain it even if it is temporary.

You mean

1. Scrotum shaved and washed with dial soap.

2. Scrotum rubbed with antiseptic.

3. Fresh, unused hypodermic needle in sterile packaging.

At the end of Sept. I washed them off good with soap and water, then 99% Isopropel alcohol was washed over them. I sterilized a couple of large sewing needles in the same solution. I carefully pushed the needles through the hydrocele to let off the pressure. The hydrocele went down to nothing for about a month and is right back again after a couple of months. There was no ill effects from the activity and it is fun to do, probably will repeat it again. No reason to have it removed. :dong:
