I'm not happy.
Four weeks now and I have to see a uroligist tuesday because the incision that kimmel made is more open than ever,11/2 in long by 1/4in wide with no chance of it closing because it healed allready along the edges.kimmel used 4 desolvable stiches that let out after two weeks.I don't know what the uroligist is going to do to fix this. After he smells this mess he may want to remove the whole f in scrotum..this sucks!!!!

Re: I'm not happy.
Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble bigtwin. Do you think perhaps it is due to overly cleansing the area that cause the stitches to come loose? I basically just kept the area clean and washed with anti bacterial soap and made sure to change the bandage several times a day. Maybe a combination of peroxide and neosporin healed the wound quicker than it should have? I do know that peroxide should not be used on certain deep wounds. It took me about 3 weeks to close, with a small 1/4 inch opening, which was still a little premature and led to some build up of fluids. I did have a couple of stitches sticking out, after about 3 or 4 weeks they let loose with no resistance. After the fourth week the wound was closed and the swelling took a few more weeks to go down.

Re: I'm not happy.
I suspect he uses dissolvable sutures so he doesn't need to worry about them needing to be taken out by the patient. How many days where you in Philly? At most three? Personally, I would rather go to a local doctor or a local cutter from whom I could be driven home in light of hearing this about Kimmel. If the guy doing the op were far out of state, I would probably choose to stay about 7-10 days if I could.

What I have notice from reading experances and such that Kimmel tries to simplfy things so less needs to goto Doctor. However the dissolvable suture irritates tissue which causes the body to attack and break them up. This does make the site more acceptable to infections.
Dissolvable sutures are not intended for long term use or sites with high stress (ie where skin is pull tight) as the body starts absorbing/attcking them and they lose their strength real quickly.
From what you have described bigtwin from this and your previous post is that you have developed some sort of infection and your body is is keeping the wound open to try and expell it out.
Although I do know the swelling and such can take weeks for it to return to normal.
I do think Dr. Kimmel needs to work to improve helping cut down the number of infections people get. I do seem to be alarmed by the number of people that have infections afterwards. Since I have not seen him preform I cannot comment on steriality issues, but he should educate clients and provide sdamples of good aftercare products to care for the wound site to reduce chance of infection.

Re: I'm not happy.
Cutters are said to cause a lot of infections.
Dr. Kimmel is said to cause a lot of infections.
Many cutters have a fair degree of training by experience.
Dr. Kimmel has lots of experience and training.
Cutters are not licensed.
Dr. Kimmel is licensed.
So, besides the little illegal aspect of practicing medicine without a license, on a purely material basis, why do we insist on licensed doctors? Have we really evolved from a time when barbers did minor surgeries? If so, why not devolve?

Re: I'm not happy.
thanx for all the responses, luvpain, awen, you hit the nail on the head.I didn't want to mention it about kimmel but' I was shocked at the lack of sterile practices.worked on me with no mask while talking over the incision for 40 minutes. And worst of all didn't remove his gloves when he left the room to do something and returned with the same bloody gloves and went right back to work.ouch!!Maybe it was due to his age,who knows.christina I did everything kimmel told me to do and he advised also to use the hydrogen peroxide.Thanx for the concern everyone.you are the best support group anyone could ask for.[twin]

Re: I'm not happy.
Dr. Kimmel and ol' Dr. Spector are on the fringe of the medical community. That is good because they willing to help eunuch-wannabes, but I suspect they are also not hotshot surgeons either.
I like Awen's suggestion to recruit a younger, respected surgeon to pick up Kimmel's practics.
I've had several testicular operations (mostly repairing damage I've done) and never had any problem with infection. If the scrotum has not been removed, I don't see how the dissolvable stiches would have a problem -- they've always worked fine in my case.
Infection is NOT to be expected from a good surgeon. It is a rare occurance rather than standard.

Actually, I was wondering why cutters are said to be so bad and Kimmel and Spector good when all three have much in common. That is, if the state of licensed medicine is indistinguishable from underground medicine, what prohibits one from going to the underground?
