Voting on the Top 50 best Archive Stories
I'd like to see which stories others think are the absolute best. So let's vote on the top stories in the Archive. Are you with me? This would then be an elite list. No one should be allowed to vote for there own story(s). Let's divide them by categories: Top gay, top straight, top etc. etc. We should give a prize to the best author(s). Hash

Re: Voting on the Top 50 best Archive Stories
Bboy had a poll up for awhile for best author (which I took an early lead in, but all these damnable heterosexuals voted for somebody else, I think. Damned hets!
). I think the problem you're likely to run into is while nearly everything on this site deals with some kind of castration, most people don't read the stories that don't deal with their variation on the kink - for instance, I have no interest in most of the straight or femdom stories and absolutely no interest in anything involving children, so don't read them. For instance, Pueros is a very popular and prolific author here, but since he writes about kids I never read his stuff - it just doesn't do it for me.
If you want to do this you'll likely have to break it up into categories - best gay story, best minor story, best straight, best femdom, best tg, etc., to whatever level of detail seems appropriate.
And not letting authors vote for their own stories...come on, what if I think my story is the best? You give me any of my stories vs. any number of straight stories and I guarantee I'll like mine better - again, cuz I don't get into that kind of story. I would bet a lot of authors here feel similarly.

Don't forget the castration, penectomy, nullo, and other categories. Before you knew it, you might have dozens of categories. I like the idea of having a poll, though, or rather, a number of separate polls. If for no other reason, I'd love for folks to point out some of their favorite older stories so I could check them out if I've missed them (there are just so many stories now that it's hard to work through them all).
Maybe a different way to handle it would be for each person who wants to participate to write up a list of his or her top ten favorite stories or authors.

Re: Voting on the Top 50 best Archive Stories
Till now, only one story is my love.
It's "Summer Love" from k2k.
So that's the only one story I can say it's the best.
I didn't know how to vote other 49 stories.

Re: Voting on the Top 50 best Archive Stories
It sounds like there are some good ideas here. Although I'm not an avid reader of the story section, I might be inclined to read a few stories if there were a link posted and brief review of the storyline to each.
I believe that all of the writers should deserve credit for their work. Those efforts should be recognized in some way. I am also curious to see what some of the top picks are by many of the readers. It would be more likely for me to read something that several people gave a good review of, then to pick a story at random and lose interest in it soon after.

If memory serves, the winner of the story contest/fav. author poll that we ran a few years back was Master Waddie for "The Ties That Bind." I think. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Voting on the Top 50 best Archive Stories
Rather than pick stories, I'll list my choice of authors:
Paolo: Perhaps the best, most skillful, writer on the Archive. He definitely has the potential to be a mainstream author-an excellent teller of stories.
Nathan: No one can better describe a castration than Nathan. His stories are excellent.
Pueros: Pueros retells history from a unique perspective, one that may be as accurate as any found in textbooks. His stories, most lasting many chapters, are not a quick read, however.
There are many other good writers on the Archive, and I hate to leave any out. These, my top three choices, are personal. Many, I don't read because they write about topics which don't appeal to me.

Re: Voting on the Top 50 best Archive Stories
I have to agree with Slammr with regard to Paolo. My other favourite authors in no particular order are: Master Waddie; Charlieje; David/Androboy and Slammr.
Nathan is certainly the best short story writer in my opinion, although not entirely to my taste.
LOL

Re: Voting on the Top 50 best Archive Stories
Slammr, out of undue modesty, leaves out himself as one of the great authors. His Memories
Kortpeel has written a number of very different types of stories for the Archive. My personal favorite is Evenin Dearie
Pueross stories are more historically accurate than some of what gets published as nonfiction. The best of his work is absolutely consonant with the historical record he just interprets some of it a bit differently than do mainstream historians. Once you read The Young Patrician
Androboys The Tribes is the beginning of a masterpiece. Im afraid that it may never be complete. David has written about his serious health problems and he disappeared from the Archive in November of last year. Emails to his address remain unanswered.
Charlieje has produced two book-length stories for the Archive, Andy and Kenny that he has turned into mainstream novels. Both are available through Amazon.com. I have them both on my shelf in the paperback edition.
But, my all time favorite story is a book-length one from Paolo. His For Your Own Good is an incredible nightmare the repays reading and rereading. (It was one of his earlier stories, and is listed under ^Paolox3_ as author, rather than simply Paolo.) It is another story that needs only slight rewriting to become a mainstream masterpiece. Paolos science fiction novel XY-n probably couldnt be rewritten, as the castration scenes are too integral to the storyline, but it is definitely worth reading. I thoroughly enjoyed his novel Harry Potter and the Knife of Klingsor, and not just because it is so much better written than J.K. Rowling could ever dream of writing. For a quick Paolo read to demonstrate what he is capable of, I would recommend Do Not Open Until Christmas
M/ea_20921memories.htm) is incredibly powerful. If theres ever a volume of The Best of the Eunuch Archive, it should probably be the lead story. Also a must read would be his Retribution
R/ea_194204retribut.htm). Its short and and almost impossible to get out of your mind after your finish it. Terry, despite Slammrs disclaimers that its primarily a gay love story, is one of the most powerful indictments of the criminal justice system that I have ever read. Its book length and needs only a bit of editing to be published. [I havent provided a link to the 17 parts of Terry, but you can find it in the Index.] You cant go wrong reading anything that Slammrs written.
Kortpeel has written a number of very different types of stories for the Archive. My personal favorite is Evenin Dearie
X/ea_1130_evenin_.htm), about as close to perfect as a one-page story can get. Its publishable as it stands. Errors of Judgement
E/ea_101813errors_o.htm) is a powerful cautionary tale and is another one that will haunt you long after you finish it. His Hangin' Free
H/ea_80116hangin__.htm) is a beautifully written and compelling story. It's gentle and intelligent. The link in the previous sentence is to Pt. 1. Part 2 is her
H/ea_82153hangin__.htm).

Y/ea_151408the_youn.htm), youll never view an important holiday in the same way. Apocalyses
A/ea_61955apocalyp.htm) deserves publication with no more than a sentence or two changed. Its a powerful anti-war tale that stays with you. Nero [Again, I havent linked the many chapters.] is historically accurate. The characters are real and the actions depicted are well within possibility with what we have in the written record. The story will probably stretch well over 100 chapters by the time he reaches an ending that should send chills up the spine of anyone reading it. [Im enough of an historian to guess where hes going.]
