The rather old photographs were of a German Car Worker (?) who bolted the attachment and could not get it back off. Elastration is much the same as you say except that you would not get so much swelling as here. There are better pics on BME which is always worth the subscription!

I believe that his nuts came though OK. But the problem was not a castration atemp but a ball stretcher gone bad.

I think leaving a ball stretcher on (and something constricting his penis as well) until your scrotum rots counts as a castration attempt.
