I would like to hear from those that have taken spironolactone. Please share your experience, how much you would take, side effects, what was your objective in taking it and did you acheive your objective...etc???

I took (still taking) spironolactone as part of my HRT regiment. I take 200mg/day. Some of the side effects include urinating frequently (due to the diuretic effects of the drugs), reduced body hair growth, mild skin drying, as well as reduced sex drive. It may not work as fast as some of the other medications, (Androcur and Depo-Provera), but it does work quite well when taken over a long period. One thing to keep in mind is the low cost of this drugs, it helps when you don't have a lot of extra cash to spend.

Christina, thanks for your response. I am as interested as anyone in learning more about this drug.

Did you take take the drug on your own, or under the advice of a doctor?

Glenda,

For the first few months I took this on my own without the aid of a doctor. I did the reasearch and found it had the least side effects and was fairly cheap. Eventually I did get a doctor and he prescribed the same thing only at a higher dose.

Anyone who would do this on their own should be well advised to start at a low dose for at least several weeks, then work their way up to a higher dose. Seeing a doctor is the best advice I can give, but for whatever reason you can't, you must play it safe and start out slowly.

I will start out slow. Thanks for the advise. Where I am coming from on this issue, I have had a fixation to be castrated for the past ten years. I have a strong desire yet to be safe and sane is the only way. I want to find a doctor yet it seems harder still to do. In the mean time I have used a burdizzo twice on the right and three times to the left. Minnmal effect at best. I was set for having both nuts removed then meds I needed - never recevied. So, I want to reduce the t level chemically then in the mean time find the meds I need to have it done. Bottom line, I want to be a eunuch.
