Re: Kickin My A**!!!
Just so everyone knows, Premarin comes with a high price for those conscious of animal abuse. This is not a joke!
Premarin = PRegnant MAre uRINe
That is its source -- pregnant mare piss. Mares are impregnated to make this drug. What happens to the foals? More often than not, sold as MEAT or to GLUE factories because they are unwanted. This is no joke, either. These foals are not bred because someone wants them, they are made for Premarin only (and its generic equivelants of Prempro, Premphase, Prempac, and Premelle).
There are many viable alternatives containing the exact same active ingredients, including Ogen, Estrace, Estradiol Transdermal System, Estradiol tablets, Estropipate, Estrone, Meneste, and Cenestin. However, there is a mysterious component to Premarin that the FDA once deemed an 'impurity' but now deems an unknown, for which no test has been able to determine a useful purpose that renders these synthetic and plant-derived equivelants as unsuitable to fit the bill of generic. No one knows, not even the drug companies, what the delta 8,9-dehydroestrone sulfate is. The FDA currently has it classified as a "concomitant" which means they are not active ingredients and they are not impurities. There is no evidence to show delta 8,9 DHES plays any role in Premarin ERT/HRT.
I highly discourage anyone who likes horses (or anyone who doesn't like the idea of ingesting horse piss with ingredients still having unknown effects contained within) to avoid Premarin.
The source of my information and a great resource with lots more information on the subject is www.premarin.org
