Re: Why children?
g - I respectfully disagree. I think that hitting a child with an implement is never something you "have to do". Ever. I have swatted my kids on the rear to get their attention, but I cannot imagine ever hitting them with something, a belt in particular. It's just not necessary.
Paolo, I'm not a lawyer and I won't begin to try to give any legal advice, and certainly you haven't asked for any. But were I in your shoes, I would seriously take down that post. If DHS has already been involved, the last thing you need is something like this which can be traced to your ISP, on the internet. For real, dude, I'd take it down.

Re: Why children?
Thank you, Krister.
I believe it was B&J that you met. J was the little one with the cell phone that day. You might be entertained to know that he asked, "Which one dresses up like a red nun?"
You'll also be happy to know that Kyle, the little slow guy, is developing much quicker now and has finally started talking. We don't see too much of him now as he's quite busy and has his own competent family. (J's cousin).
Of course, I had to share that Christmas card a few years ago. It was a huge hit.
And Jane, all I can say is that you are lucky. I envy you the fact that physical discipline hasn't come into play in your child rearing. All story/fantasy elements aside, I do not enjoying spanking - and it is a rarity. I don't find myself spanking someone every day.
As for DFC, you call them, they are no higher on my list of "food chain" example than plankton or worms. To date, I have gone off on county deputies, the property tax assessor (attacked him), teachers (got one sacked), and a host of others that were dumb enough to stick their nose into my affairs. To date, I have done 2 hours in the county jail, and that was in the office with Joan, God love her...she wouldn't let me leave. I was arrested by the secretary and held in her office at gun-point until I settled down. (I had just attempted vehicular homicide on X-brother in law and failed.) DFC doesn't frighten me. I've done far worse than shoot off my mouth and gotten away with it, and I'll continue to do it if I have to.
As I mentioned, unmarried marriage counselors...they get the good jobs. Go figure. Wish I had her job. I'd straighten out some of these problem families real quick.
Note to professionals - don't leave your briefcase on the counter when you visit a shoppe. The guy who took your photo is going to go through it before he calls you!
Note - add on, as for the ISP thing...None of the boys - except for when they were babies on my lap - have ever seen EA and they couldn't read then. All of them have 2 functioning testicles each, so I haven't castrated any of them, nor do I plan to. As for implied "weirdness", involving whatever you please, I would quote Lucius Malfoy from the reknown Harry Potter series - "Why don't you PROVE it?"

Re: Why children?
Hey, man, I wasn't cutting on your parenting. All I said was that if authorities had already involved, I wouldn't be posting anything about my situation, especially parts of my situation that they seem most interested in. That's all. No offense intended.
Sounds like you really run the town there! It's be nice if I could tell the tax assessor and the police to screw themselves. Looks like you're the one who's lucky, not me.
I guess I have been lucky, like you said, to have not had to resort to hitting my kids. We started early and have worked hard to try to teach them how to get along in the world. Either they're real smart (which they are), or we've done a decent job of teaching them right from wrong (which I like to also believe is the case).
Out of curiousity, were the kid there when you attacked the tax guy, went off on the deputy, tried to commit homicide and were held at gunpoint?
As for being "weird", you said that, not me, nor did I intimate any such thing. I wasn't attacking you, and sorry if you took it that way. I have no interest in calling them, and don't know why you would tell me to. I was just concerned maybe you were going public with something that might end up hurting you or your family. Sorry for the intrusion.

Authorities should never be involved unless it is Real Abuse, and not for Spanking. But childless and the NO hit ideots have gone over board.

You have done it right but even doing it right some children will still need a spanking. Saying that you just can not beat up a child for reason or not that is abuse.

g, you'll get no argument from me that authorities shouldn't be shoving anyone around when there's no abuse. But authorities should only become involved when we're alredy sure it's abuse? Many times that's too late. You don't think authorities should be compelled, or even allowed to investigate reports or suspicions of abuse?

Hi Folk's,I can add something possitive here. They say that when children up to five years old,you can do your real good parenting and set good patterns.Of course scolding and a spanking is in order.I always would explain the whole thing to my children ,why, how, what.By the time the spanking came, they had a real good idea what was going on.That after a couple of warnings. Then I would take care of it and
tell them that I promised them and warned them ,now I have to spank them. After 5,I was able to punish them by other sofisticated means. My children love and respect me
and are all well adjusted young parents. If their children get under my skin,I just look at mine and they do what's right without me saying anything.Parenting is a wonderful thing and it's a great feeling to have raised children who are also loved and respected
with their friends and community.LOL,Leona

Jane,
No offense taken at all.

And no, the boys have never been witness to any of my outbursts.

Oh HELL!!
Don't you know?
You beat your kids until they are big enough to beat you (and maybe they even do it once) and then you've done all that you can for them. You are, at that point, through raising them.
Golly, GEE, MAA'M, it's like the LAW of the old west...

Re: Why children?
Hi guys,
Isn't this a nice place?
The thred was originally "Why hids?" and we have been discussing a lot of aspects of caring for kids and now lately if we should be spanking our kids or not.
Isn't this a broad and interesting subject?

Re: Why children?
Well Andrew, at least you r honest about how you feel, about having kids. And you do have kids of your own, kitty kids
btw, I have two cats, a mother and her son, they are 5 and 6 yrs. We just got a new kitty, I wasnt sure to keep it. It was an orphan and needed to have a good loving home. Which I love cats very much, so... we took it in, I always have room in my heart for a kitty.
Hello Chibiabos, I wanted to tell you, I'll bet you did get to at least one of those teenagers when you were a mentor. You might not realize it now, but i'll just bet. And I think that was really cool of you. btw where have u been , I've missed u in the chatroom. Hope everything is ok.
River, I think you are a great father and a wonderful grandfather.
Oh, and you mentioned "The Shriners" well let me tell, I know your money was put to good use. My daughter had a major back operation in 1989. It was for the curve in her spine. Well I am so thankful for the Shriners in Philadelphia, and btw... she is doing good on that part. So thankyou for your contributions to the Shriners.
Jema, You are such a sweet person, I am sure you will find the right person to love and respect you for who you are, because of what you been through, I think you deserve it sweetie. *hugssss*
I think all of you have told us a lot of good points and stories on this issue. I just couldnt respond to them all... it would have been two pages long, lol. So, I will go for now.
takecare everyone,
Lilac
