My first sex after my accident was entirely intitated by a male friend who had no problem with me being paraplegic. It was fun but not romantic. And by that I mean like enjoying drinks and pizza with a good friend, very relaxed and very explorative. It was hard to do. He wasn't self-conscious, I was. So you should go out and socialize. Most social encounters don't end in sex. Don't stay inside, go out and meet people and talk without the pressure of sex.

It took years for me to let anyone touch me in certain ways and to this day, my closest lover still gets a cheap thrill by making me jump nervously at his touch. I'm not shy, but I had to "turn on the attitude" to have sex and HAD to be in charge. It's when I let someone else in charge that I have the most fun and enjoyment. You'll be nervous when sex first happens. You have to get over that, somehow.
