How worried over discharge should I be?

Post by TiffFox (imported) »

It's been a week since the procedure, with smallish discharges present when I changed dressings. but last night, I changed dressings at 9 pm. I then changed them again at 2:30 am. There was a large discharge (red and brown).

then again at 9:30 am, another large discharge

I figured it was just the last of it clearing out

BUT (there's always a but)

at 11:30 am I changed the bandages again, and it was another large discharge, looking mostly like fresh blood

I have a call into Dr. Kimmel's office, but waiting for the callback is getting to me

Dear TiffFox,

My advice is "When in doubt have it checked out". My best guess is that when Dr. Kimmel gets back to you he will want to see it for himself or tell you to go have it checked out by your Doctor. So why wait? The peace of mind that every thing is OK is well worth the vissit to your Doctor. Better safe than sorry.

Take Care,

Jema

Thanks for that

I finally did get in touch with Kimmel, and he said it is just more fluids from inside working there way to the top, and that as long as I am doing the sitz baths, it will keep discharging like that

Yeah, I have been for over a wek and a half and still have discharges, as long as it doesn't appear to be infected (puss) then there is very little to worry about. Mine has been the yellowish lymph fluid and a slight hint of blood.

if you worry to much always ask advice on your doctor.better two times then ones.

and about that changing of bandage , i had to do it every 3-4 houres for about 2-3 weeks, because i had a very big swelling and al that old blood has to come out.otherwise it takes a very long time to heal properly.

you should worry if the swelling is getting bigger and feeling hot.

otherwise don't, it is normal.

oh, congratulations and if their is something else you want to know ask it.

this is the right place.

greetings marca

For about 3 weeks I had drainage from my incision. Then the wound started to heal, but that may have been too soon. A few days after the bleeding stopped, it had broke open again but had a lot of fluids built up inside so there was much bleeding at that time. I was concerned that I may have had an infection and went to the emergency room. Several doctors looked at the drainage and I was told it was normal. Almost a week to the day after that, the wound closed and has been ever since. If it wasn't for the wound closing too soon, it would have been about a month of draining. I did have much swelling for the first 2 weeks.

It's been almost 4 months now, no swelling but the scar is a little hard yet. The occasional ache is somewhat forgoten now, although once in a while I still do notice a little pain.

I may be having a similar situation, 21 days (5/19) after the surgery, it seemed fully healed. Then 3 days later (5/22), a sudden discharge

it continues to discharge, so hopefully this is just the last of it. It's a mix of brown and reds, so it looks healthy

It sounds to me you have had the exact same thing happen as I did. The wound started to heal, the fluids built up, and then there was much discharge after a few days.

just one small hard spot in the sac, probably from the burning/cauterizing

It's sooo cool

I think this will be my last update on this thread(unless I get another strange discharge

oh, and today is 4 weeks free
