Another update....

I've been taking the Spironolactone at 200mg/day for a month now and it seems to be working pretty well. I would rate the effect as not quite that of the combined pill, but considerably better than the depo-provera (which I was disappointed in, as it seemed to have very little effect). The gynocomastia is less than that of the pill, although there is still a very small amount there.

I tried DP for several months a while back. I did notice a significant loss in libido, but I am pretty low on that front anyway. The biggest difference is that my dosage was much higher.

From my research related to sexual offenders, they were typically administering 300-400 mg every week. While this is a very high dosage, I think most people here are getting acceptable results with much less. In my test, I administered 300mg at first, then another 300mg the following week, then I went to 300mg every other week. I noticed changes after about 4 weeks.

The reason I stopped was because of cost and I thought I was experiencing some sleeping problems as a result. I have been having the sleeping problems even after being off DP. I would like to start again.

I am courious to know what dosages people here are using.

Just wanted to throw in my comments.

Joe 🚬 300-400mgs per week is too much. I have been doing well on 150mgs per 4 weeks. It only starts working after the first 3 weeks so one must be patient.

Where would you recommend one should get Spironolactone? Sounds effective and lower risk to the body. Pending the day I have my nuts removed I would like to find out the best spots to shop for the chemical castration drugs.

Check three topics down from this one about the FDA and Androcur. A pharmacy is cited. It has been cited on this board by others as well and I have never heard anyone have anything negative to say about them. They carry Spironolactone (sp?) among other things.

Thanks Glenda for the information. I just went to the site and ordered 3 bottles, 100 mg, 100 tablets each. Not bad price either...what dosage is recommended and how often of spironolactone?

Cast,

I went back and read up on spironolactone. I reviewed the material from the 4Corners Pharmacy and checked around some more on the Internet. I found nothing that adds to the material from 4Corners. To make a long story short, this drug should definitely only be taken under the care of a doctor. For one thing, taking the drug can lead to a build up of potassium in your body that can have serious consequences. At the least, a doctor would want to monitor your potassium levels as you start taking the drug and adjust a dose for you accordingly. You need a doctor that is familiar with this drug and one with experience in treating those desiring a transgender or eunuch alternative end.

Another thing you need to do is to talk with others taking the drug and get their inputs as to how they tolerate the drug and whether it produces the results you are looking for. There are some on this board and there are many other boards that cater to the transgender community.

One avenue I have found useful in the past is to attend services at the Metropolitan Community Church. I note you are from Seattle and there should be such a church in your vicinity. Or, for that matter, any group that has a large number of gay and lesbian folks. You will always find recommendations for good doctors in these groups. In addition meeting people taking hormones or anti-androgens.

Again, this is not a drug you should experiment with on your own.
