Have recent pictures of Czarina and Hestia -- the latter with her
s-p-r-e-a-d out upon Harry's desk.
Also pictures of Hestia with her new collar and the transmitter by the
food dishes.
The collar and transmitter is the IRF-300UV from
http://www.radiofence.com/cat_fence_indoor.htm.
I have put the collar on Hestia and place the transmitter, but have
not powered up the transmitter. At a very low setting the transmitter
will protect a two foot radius -- basically just the pictured mat with
the food dishes.
Harry has been feeding the cats in four locations -- the mat in the
Harem Room, by the cat loft in his bedroom, by the condo in the dining
room, and in the kitchen. I have noticed that about 80% of the
feeding is done in the Harem Room. I've decided to stop topping off
the other locations to get the cats used to eating only in the Harem
Room. Then, when the transmitter goes on, Hestia will be placed on
her diet. A private feeding, twice daily, will keep her from wasting
away to nothing. This has to wait until my brother returns, since he
will have to monitor the feeding. Her empty disk can remain at her
feeding spot.
This is roughly what we do with our Tripod, except that he is kept out
of the patio room with the dog's food and the dog's door to the
outside. Tripod has the larger standard collar, the ultralight being
a newer development. Tripod's feeding spot is his cat-carrier and at
7am and 7pm he is pacing about his carrier calling for someone to feed
him before he wastes away to below 12 pounds.
It seems a workable plan to me, but I figured I could post so others
could comment and maybe improve upon the plan.
(The only other options would be to put all the cats on a twice daily
feeding, which would not work with Conway - or to give Hestia to
someone to be an only cat, 'cept they seem to rather like each other's
company.)

Tuesday 16 march 2004: Plans continue for putting Hestia on her diet. I now have another question for cat persons reading this. Any suggestions for a good cat diet food to feed Hestia? I've been on the Internet, of course, but that tends to be weighted towards the big pet food companies.
Still, both IAMS Weight Control and Hill's Feline R/D would seem to be good choices. Anyone had experience with either of these, or some other weight reduction food?
On a more cheerful note, one of my coworkers made a point of showing me the cover of last Sunday's PARADE magazine. It is devoted to what people earned last year. But the "people" also included Funny Cide, the thoroughbred who earned $2 million last year, and that does not include stud fees. Go you gelding!
Passed another Practicle Test, so I am getting close to the 70 points needed to pass this Post Office school I am at. Weather has been surprisingly nice and warm here in Norman.
