Bone Calcium Loss?
Concerning both chemical and surgical castration, what is the risk of Osteoporosis (heavy loss of bone calcium leading to fractures that cripple)? Do hormones, male or female, need to be taken to resolve this complication?

Re: Bone Calcium Loss?
Adam,
You are asking a critical question, and one which has been addressed on the Archive. I would first direct you to the most recent iteration of Andrews invaluable list of The Effects of Castration (http://www.eunuch.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=4608). (clicking on the underlined text should take you directly to the thread.)
Next I would look at the thread started by Riverwind titled Osteoporosis (http://www.eunuch.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=4509). Following this, there are the two threads which I began titled
Osteoporosis for all (http://www.eunuch.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=4076) and Consider Osteoporosis (http://www.eunuch.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=3460).
A next step, requiring a bit more time (but which also leads to some other valuable health considerations) would be to check the entire set of threads on this Health Forum. You can do that easily by scrolling to the bottom of the opening page of the forum and changing the listing of Display Options so that it reads From the BEGINNING, instead of From the Last Month.
This should be enough useful information to keep you reading for a while.
If you have any further questions, please ask them here. There are a number of members who are very willing to help.

Re: Bone Calcium Loss?
Hi, I am glad to report that after a year of Fosamax and 1500 mg of calcium a day my last bone scan was back in the green. My doctor is keeping me on the Fosamax for a while.
