What To expect after starting Androcur

Post by 5tacey (imported) »

I have read a lot of these postings, but am unclear about whether or not this chemical castration will be just as if i just went and had them removed. If anybody can tell me, it would be very apreciated.

Chemical castration and surgical castration have about the same effects. Surgery is permanent, chemical can be reversed. Surgery involves one payment up front, chemical requires payment for each shot or pill.

Andrew thank you for your reply, much appreciated. I can not wait to start. My goals are to get rid of my over active erection, and over active thoughts about sex. I do not even have to think about anything sexual and pop goes the weasal.

I second that motion about Depo-Provera. I love not having a libido!

Just a brief question for all the guys who have experienced chemical castration: Have any of you experienced depression once chemically castrated?

I ask since we know guys who have no testicles and forego Testosterone injections are susceptible to depression...

A drop in testosterone is well-known to cause depression, either from surgical castration or by other means.

I took Androcur prior to my snip snips, but did not have depression. I took estrogen. Estrogen might make you moody, but not necessarily depressed.

Hugs,

Kelly :)

I took Androcur for about a year prior to castration (mid-2000 to mid-2001). I followed the instructions that come with the Androcur box for chemical castration, and found that Androcur was more effective than surgical castration.

Androcur completely removed my libido and I became totally impotent. Indeed, after a few weeks after starting, I never again had an erection. Ever. Of course, I no longer have a weenie, but that is another story.

Post castration (Spector, 2001), I stopped Androcur, and my libido came back. This is likely because I was on female hormones, so therefore I would or should have the same libidinous feelings as a normal woman. I was still impotent, though, but would rather cuddle (that might have been due to the progesterone :D ).

Regarding T levels, I had my blood tested both while on Androcur and then later, after surgical castration--the results were the same (mid-female level or castrate male level).

Indeed, one of the ways that Androcur works is by reducing or actually halting the pituitary's production of LH and FSH. The hormones (known as gonadotropins) tell the testes to produce T and sperm respectively. Once the gonadotropins are no longer being secreted by the pituitary, the testes stop functioning and atrophy (my testes were very small when Spector cut them off, and I still have them). Therefore, a castrate level of T is expected.

T is still produced in other tissues, since the androgens from the adrenal glands can and do convert to T, DHT, and estradiol in other parts of the body, but the T will still be at castrate levels.

Hugs,

Kelly :)

Both chemical and surgical eunuchs are at great risk for depression. Please read the new thread I have started on depression in the health forum.

I found Androcur to be a very simple way to reduce the libido and stop the "sex on the brain" mentality that has dominated my thought patterns since puberty. I was only on it for a week, so I'm no expert, but if you are interested in thinking about other things besides sex (world peace, where all those socks go after coming up missing in the dryer, etc) I would recommend giving it a try.
