Antibiotics prior to castration

I will be castrated soon and want to start on antibiotics prior to and during recovery. Is there a 'preferred' antibiotic for this procedure or will any do?

Cippro and floxin...perhaps the same thing, I'm not sure, are often prescribed for urinary tract infections, and infections in that general area. At least, that's what they had me on for six months. Brace yourself, it's nasty stuff.

I don't know about "preferred", but Drs. Spector and Kimmel have patients on Cipro prior to surgery, and for some time afterwards. TAKE THEM.

If surgical castration is performed, like it should be, in a sterile environment no antibiotics are needed. In fact resistent bacteries are induced by improper use of antibiotics.

I find my self in agreement generally with vesal_mas. Prophylactic antibiotics are used in hospitals do to the nasty resistance of bacteria found there. Resistant to both disinfectant and many antibiotics. The average bathroom is less a problem than the hospital environment. That is why hospitals take extreme steps to control infection.

I was placed on CIPRO after my castration. Since I had only 3 days to wait after my wife and I opted for the surgical option. Never had a problem with any infections at all. There was slight swelling in the sac but it went away after 3 or 4 days. Its really a simple operation thats pretty routine for specialist.
