Re: Pearly is dying
Jesus, I also have a 16 year old dog who wobbles around and has been near death several times. We solved her leaking and incontinence problem with a VERY INexpensive pill called Proin, that you can get from any vet. it works liek a charm and the dog is confortable al the time and pees normally and can hold it without discomfort. It onlyh costs about $17 for a month or more supply. It let us keep our dog and she is old but happy. I suggest calling the vet and getting it because it saves your rugs and lets your dog be comfortable.

Its been almost two weeks. ANDREW, can you give us an update on what's happening at your house? Do you still have one cat?
The update is in the thread "And now we are three".

Re: Pearly is dying
I have a trio of cats and sometimes even the one that seems most helpless and dependent disappears then comes back. It used to make me crazy. Then my veterinarian said a cat can go away for a long time and still return as if nothing happened.
When i moved here three years ago the one I had adopted from someone else who died, he took off the first day and was gone in the woods for four days. i figured he was gone. Then he showed up at the door, not starved, not worried, but ready for diinner.
The otehr one, my favorite took off the same way two years before into the woods. he stayed away for two weeks, came back skinny, claws worn to the nub (like a pnectomized penis) and ready to go back to being the helpless baby.
They are better able to take care of themseves in the wild than we are. What goes through their minds? No one knows. From what I gathered, they just like to disappear from you for a time, and are really hiding and watching you right nearby.
I saw a TV show on this one cat that would show up at a school on the first day in September and stay till the kids left for summer vacation. He would not be around again until the next first school day. It went on for 13 years. No one knew what he did with his summers.
So i have got to the point where i don't worry when they take off any more. Makes life all around easier.

Re: Pearly is dying
Our family has had many pets. IT is always hard to lose one.
But if you loved your pet then that pet would want you to share that love with another of its kind and perpetuate its species.
Animals are extensions of ourselves in that we project many personality traits to them.
Your pain will ease gradually but it WILL ease.
The world is unfolding as it should on a schedule that we cannot control. Go with it and make the most of each day one day at a time.
That way, they will get better after the rough spots.
The same for all of you. It is good to have something to love, even if it is a pet. Never give up on love.

Re: Pearly is dying
Thanks.
We all have our moments.
I have several pets. My favorite is a 9 year old neutered female calico cat. She is very vocal and she likes to have her ass rubbed from her ribcage to her tail.
She curls up on the bed and looks at me and literally growls in a "come hither" voice when she wants rubbed.
I just know that we were lovers in a previous life. She must have been a voratious, sexy wench in that world.
You see, even if you don't fit species-wise you can still caress in a platonic manner. We all crave hugs, back rubs and the like. Even our pets. They will love you back. In their space and time...

The loss of a pet is a serious matter. Please take care of yourself. Grieve your loss. Celebrate the joy you have shared with your friend.
