Do YOU know your hormone levels?

Do YOU know what your hormone levels are?

In my case, I got the results back today from the lab that tested my blood. As expected, my testosterone was flagged as “low”, at 38 ng/dl. The lab lists normal levels for a male at 241-827 ng/dl, and for a female at 14-76 ng/dl. (Yes, women produce a small amount of testosterone and men produce a small amount of estrogen. Live with it.)

My estrogen was high, of course. Normal for an adult male is listed as 40-115 pg/ml, and less than 40 for a castrate. They also mention that “HMG Treatment: Therapeutic” is 400-800. I’m not sure what HMG stands for, but in any case I am at 397 pg/ml, which is the minimal amount to mostly suppress the hot flashes and night sweats. I still get a few, but they are very mild, and both Donna and I are reluctant to increase the dosage of Premarin beyond its current 2.5 MG daily.

I don't know what my current level is after HRT. However, I feel much better after HRT. My testicles are again large. My penis has regained its size. I notice pretty girls with lovely breasts. ;) Desire does not overwhelm me. It does spice life. :D

At the same time, I realize that having low libido can improve the quality of life for some of us. :) Sex is not the only aspect of life to enjoy or celebrate. :)

In early 2000, mine was 65 or 75, I forget which. I have not had it checked since. Don't know, don't care.

I can tell you one thing though, the fluoxymesterone family of HRT sucks bigtime. Avoid it like the Plaque.

I do not know what the fluoxymesterone family of HRT is or what my physician used. If there are undesirable side effects to whatever he used, I am not aware of them. HRT may have caused my body to retain fluid. However, other medications I take may have the same effect.

Presumably, HRT jumped started the production of testosterone by my own body. After HRT, my level of physical endurance improved. I can now do some of those activities that had become hard to do. However, I also had cardiac bypass surgery within the past year. Before HRT my testosterone level was, according to my physician, low. It was close to nothing.

Every six months, I do have prostate checkups. That eventually may go to one checkup a year.

As readers of this board know, I had mixed feelings about being a eunuch. It has its good aspects and it has bad ones. For now, I appreciate my respite from hormonal loss, even though Andrew plans to outlive me by many years.

Back in November was my last report on hormone levels. Estrogen: 870 pg/ml, testosterone: 53 ng/dl. I've recently had another blood test done for hormone levels. I will know these results in about 3 weeks when I go back to the doctor for a follow up. The levels may not be accurate because I was switched to a synthetic estrogen since then, which doesn't show up very well on the tests.

Riverwind,

I just had my hormone levels checked on 06/23. Testosterone was measured at 12 ng/dl. I was kind of surprised it was this low! See the link for more details.
