How's my health after two years as a eunuch?

Well, I don't have all the details yet, but today (19 May 2003) I saw my Physician (Donna Garnier), who ran the usual urine tests, blood tests, chest x-ray, and resting ECG. The blood tests will include total estrogens and testosterones, just to get a general idea of what is going on. We don't need a detailed listing of every type of estrogen and testosterone, after all.

She also scheduled me for a Treadmill test next Thursday, to see how my heart is really doing. A bone density scan has been scheduled for 28 July 2003. My insurance will not pay for "routine" mammograms for males, but Donna gave me a two page handout on breast self-exams.

Aside from my weight creeping up (which happens to a lot of eunuchs), I seem to be in very good condition indeed. More and more, I am enjoying my current life without testosterone.

I'm glad to see you maintain regular check-ups and in good health. I'm also glad to hear any lack of regrets as to being a eunuch. Keep us updated.

I too was just in to see my GP this week. My BP was normal and my weight was within 5 lbs of my last visit. He also had the results of a blood test which included liver function, and cholesterol. He was pleased with the liver profile and said it was good, also he commented that the cholesterol levels were excelent.

I will be going to my endo in June to get the results from those blood tests, so I'll let you know how they turn out and if any changes are made to my HRT regiment.

You bring to mind a question that I was wondering about...mammograms. So far I have been limited to a doctors exam, but some time in the future I will expect to have regular mammograms done. My insurance company in the past has denied payment on certain medications (estradiol) saying it was not approved for "male" use by them. Since that time I have legally changed my name to a female one, but still have the male gender marker on my birth certificate and drivers licence. My endo may soon put me back on estradiol and with my legal name change to a female one, I am wondering if my insurance company will provide me now with the services rendered to genetic females? Maybe now the insurance company will see which direction I'm headed, or I might just slip through the system as female.

Well, today (Thursday 22 May) I had a treadmill stress ECG to see how my heart is doing. I seem to have done well enough for a 58 year old male, but in view of my family history of heart disease, they wanted me back in one year. Blue Cross will pay for this, of course.

Regular medical examinations make sense as we age. My own annual examination got me into cardiac bypass surgery before my blockages caused enduring damage. I wonder to what extent my weight gain in recent years came from my low testosterone level. I have not lost weight since my HRT. I mention this because low testosterone did not prevent my cardiac problems or changes to my prostate. Remember my physician told me that my testosterone level was close to zero.
