Side Effects vs. Age?
As I continue to ponder the option of an Orchiectomy I'm curious to find out how the range and severity of the side effects might vary with age. As a 64 y/o am I going to find some of the side effects are less than in a younger man? Any experience or research out there on this?

I'd guess you'll find similar side effects as any of the rest of us, with age related twists here and there as any other male has. I was castrated at 35, nulled at 44 (removed what was left), and am now 53. I've not had significant issues related to the removal of my testicles, and later my cock and sac, but I am getting age progression items just like anyone else.

Re: Side Effects vs. Age?
I was castrated at your age, some eleven years ago. My only regret is that I did not have it done earlier, in my mid-50s, so that my now-deceased wife and I could experience it together before she passed. It was something which she wanted me to have done for a long time to make us more compatible, especially after menopause. It has given me a good attitude of self and an optimistic, healthy look at life.
There are a lot of changes that eventually manifest themselves over time, all good for me. If would like to start a dialogue with me about them, you can DM me, just as I did with others on this site when I was considering getting it done.

Unfortunately there is not a lot of medical research (if any) on guys that have gotten castrated voluntarily w/o having other medical issues... There is some on M->F trans folks doing the full binary transition, and more on guys that have had to do testosterone elimination (with either drugs or surgery) which is somewhat informative, but may not be directly applicable because of the other issues....
That said, while the same considerations in terms of longer term issues like osteoporosis, apply, the fact that at 64 you are probably closer to your expected "expiration date" than a younger guy would suggest that they wouldn't have as much time to cause you problems before something else got you...
It is generally suggested that we should do some form of hormone replacement to avoid osteoporosis and some of the other mental health, etc. effects, with the options basically amounting to either testosterone or estrogen... IMHO testosterone somewhat defeats the purpose of getting fixed (lots of others feel differently) as it potentially leaves one still having libido and other functions, which may or may not be desired... However estrogen will probably cause some degree of feminizing, most obviously in breast growth... How much you get depends on a number of factors and is a bit unpredictable, but one of the factors suggests that the older one is, the less growth you get... FWIW, I started this journey at about your age, and after about a year and a half on estrogen, I have had enough to be (at least to my eyes) very obvious when shirtless, but when dressed the boobs show some but not so much as to be outside 'normal male range'...

Re: Side Effects vs. Age?
Thanks for the feedback. As I mentioned in an earlier post my reasons for contemplating this are a libido that refuses to die (and causes much subsequent frustration as neither my wife or I are not interested in sex) and also getting rid of that male aggression / anger that testosterone fuels. I have started the conversation with my wife who so far is sympathetic to the idea. I also have a couple of months worth of Cyproterone to trial the feeling and response.

Re: Side Effects vs. Age?
A few years younger than you, Going on 2 years since castration (Inguinal). Took about 5 months however it was work the wait. While I didn't have any anger issues, the aggression, sex drive, erections for no reason at all are over. You may get an occasional or partial erection but for me they don't last and definitely impossible to penetrate as it just can't get that hard at all. What's really nice is the fact that I have lost the desire to even try to make it hard or masturbate. You can enjoy being really close to the wife without getting the urge to have sex. Mr. Pesky is not going to be sticking in her back or side when you guys are laying together just being close - What a relief! I have had to change my diet and cut way back on meal portions, reduce caloric intake and basically just eat allot less - for me this had to be done to control weight gain but other than that I'm really happy to wear shorts in the summer and not worry about getting hard in public places! May you have a quick recovery when / if you decide to get rid of them! Don't plan on doing much walking for a few days!!!

Re: Side Effects vs. Age?
It is my personal opinion. I think that in older age total loss of T has worse effects than in younger age. As younger body is more healthy and less damaged and adapts better to changes and balance shifts. Thus negative effects are felt not as bad. Easier to fight fat gain, better sleep patterns, better cognitive function of brain, less exhaustion. Only one thing - bone loss is more of concern later in life if castrated younger.
Any thoughts?

Re: Side Effects vs. Age?
I had my balls and scrotum removed almost 2 years ago. I am now 76 and in good health. I take 1.62 testosterone 2 pumps a day and a low dose Cialis once per day. I am taking the same medications as I was before castration and have noticed no change at all. I can get an erection anytime I want one and get off usually once per day. I have been on the same dosage for at least 10 years since being diagnosed with Hypogonadism. During that time my testicles had atrophied and retracted into my groin. After my castration I love the look and feeling of being smooth down there and so does my wife. I have no advise as to the effect of castration without TRT, only what I have read here and on other sites. Since my testicles had already stopped working, I had nothing to lose by removing them. Not sure if this helps you are not.

Re: Side Effects vs. Age?
All the feedback is useful thanks. I have managed to book a phone consultation with a UK surgeon to discuss the option of orchiectomy, preceded by a period on suitable drugs to establish how I am going to feel with almost zero testosterone. I'm pleasantly surprised to find someo0ne who has not just said "no - can't / won't do it". I@ll let you know how it goes...

Re: Side Effects vs. Age?
I had my Orchiectomy April 2023 at the age of 66 and my scrotum reduction in December. The Ochie Doctor wouldn’t do the reduction. Had to pay for the reduction out of pocket. I did it most for reduction in libido. I was masterbation once or twice a day and it was becoming a time suck. I started off doing testosterone injections and found I was still masterbation just as much. My scrotum reduction urologist suggested I go on a low dose of estrogen and risk some breast growth. I too have had some growth but had to tell unless I take my shirt off. I do wear a compression bra at the gym. They were bouncing too much for me. Was losing muscle mass so I am now on a low dose of Testosterone and a slightly higher dose of estrogen and my libido is in check and my strength is coming back. I found a transgender doctor to help me with my drug regiment. So far blood works fine (every 3 months). Couldn’t be happier amd very very smooth underneath. Back on the testosterone I noticed some slight hair growth j dress. With estrogen my body hair stopped.
