The Police and prosecutor were not interested in the truth and made it into a media show so they could get public support and such.

This is what happened in the sodomy case in Houston where the Supreme Court found for the defendants. I'ne heard several time the case was a "put up" and the DA was bigoted and stupid enough to bite. A gay activist had an editorial in the Houston Chronicle thanking the DA for taking the case to the Supreme Court and getting the sodomy law thrown out.
