Alternate word for eunuch?
Can anyone here suggest another word for eunuch? I havent been able to find one.
My partner has agreed to refer to me as a eunuch but shes searching for another name to call me by. Unlike those of us who have embraced the word eunuch to describe our sexual identity, others see this as a pejorative term. She worries that she might accidentally refer to me as her eunuch in public. Im not sure that there is any word that accurately is a direct replacement for eunuch.

Re: Alternate word for eunuch?
My GF and I have always gotten along fine w/ generic words like "partner", "Significant other", Girlfriend / Boyfriend, etc... Sometimes we use each other's names...
I never felt a great need use a term that advertises what is(n't) in my pants...

Re: Alternate word for eunuch?
This question was directed to those eunuchs here for their advice, who have been so for some length of time.
I realize that EA lost a great many of its eunuch contributors when it required signing in every time one wanted to visit this site. It lost a lot of insight.

And the sign-in process was necessary to fend off the attacks, and potential legal troubles, that we were facing.
Just so you know.
It is what it is, because it has to be.

When did that happen? I didn’t notice and never saw an announcement. Was it in response to the eunuch hate coming from the same people who have it in for trans people?

Yes to your last question, and that's all the more which will be said about it.
Let's get the thread back on-track please. The topic is: Alternate word for eunuch.

Re: Alternate word for eunuch?
another word for eunuch
Please forgive my confusion, or more accurately, naivete. Not trying to start a fight here, just trying to understand.
A friend of mine had uterine problems. The solution was total hysterectomy - ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, and cervix.
She told a few close friends about it. She laughed and said she was no longer a girl, she was an "it". She took HRT and still seemed a woman to all outward appearances. Even got remarried, with no apparent problems.
Nobody ever referred to her as "it". Everyone still refers to her as "she".
What is the benefit of saying someone is my "eunuchfriend" or my "neutered sexless friend" or "geldingfriend", rather than my "boyfriend"? What does that add to any coversation?
On the other hand, if the point is to be confrontationally assertive about one's sexual status, which is OK by me, then what is the problem with "eunuch"?

Re: Alternate word for eunuch?
There was a thread on here about 5 years ago called ‘ Vocabulary issues’, you could check that.
As for me I refer to myself as a feminine eunuch.

Re: Alternate word for eunuch?
Thanks to the books and TV show Game of Thrones, many more people now know what a eunuch is. I would guess that many people didn't know this word, and that a great many still don't know it.
The word "eunuch" carries something of a negative connotation, I think. This connotation likely evolved over time, due to what was know of eunuchs when the practice was common in various cultures.
As Jesus A. has posted from his research, the first known eunuchs were the male offspring of the weaving women in the ancient civilization of Lagash. These unfortunates were resigned to lives of menial labor, and classified as property, right alongside donkeys and such.
There were certainly cultures with eunuchs, where "our heroes" (there's another word for you?) rose to prominent and respected positions. The bigger names such as Farinelli and Velluti come readily to mind in the Castrati Era, and parents (and even boys themselves) wouldn't have been standing in line and volunteering to serve as court eunuchs in Byzantium if there weren't something to it.
I read an article not too long ago, which I didn't save, about the eunuch being an overused trope as "the villain" in Asian media. Not to say that Asian cultures are to blame for the stereotypical image of eunuchs. But there is a stereotypical image, I think, in the perceptions of those that even know the definition of the word.
One has to wonder, does anyone really need an alternative word?
