It has been a few years now and I think I have adapted well. I think because I wanted this for so long, years actually. It was a final euphoric experience! So much so I wish I could do it again. The relief I felt in the recovery room was awesome.

Sorry if this is a bit out of the blue, but has anyone experienced phantom pain around their surgical scar after surgery?

I'm not sure I'd describe it as 'phantom pain' but I do get fairly frequent discomfort in that area where the 'male guard' pad I have to use feels like it is chafing the way it did when I had balls and basically takes the same sort of 'adjusting' to get relief... Similarly I sleep on my sides and usually have to do the same sort of 'adjust' that I did pre-surgery in order to get the bits I have left comfortable. Some ways being fixed makes this a bit harder as there is less to grab and shift, and because there is less 'material' in the way it has more of a tendency to slip back. I don't look at it as phantom pain, because it seems more related to discomfort from the bits I have left...

That said, I have seen reports of phantom pain, or even just feeling 'phantom bits' that aren't painful, from other members, especially not long after surgery. Most say that it goes away with time. OTOH I know long time arm and leg amps that say they still get 'phantom limb' sensations even years after losing the limb...

My balls don't work at all and they are very painful to keep, however I worry about having an empty scrotum. Two men I knew who had an empty scrotums complained of chaffing every summer so I don't want to exchange one problem for another.

It is definitely a decision each of us has to make for ourselves, but a good surgeon should be willing to discuss the idea of taking the scrotum off along with the balls... It is an option I recommend UNLESS you have a desire for vaginoplasty or other surgery that would need the tissue for that (Your profile doesn't sound like that is an issue). It does make for a somewhat longer and more painful recovery, but not terribly so, and probably less than getting two separate surgeries. The cost should be about the same since it doesn't add a lot of time or work for the surgeon.

While I mentioned mild chafing and discomfort a couple of posts above, I should add that it is mostly less and definitely no worse than what I had back when I had a scrotum w/ balls in it...

We have had quite a few members that started out with a simple orchie initially and then decided to go back and get rid of the scrotum later, with chafing and other discomfort as the most mentioned reason. Reading their experiences was one of the reasons I went for getting both done at the same time.... I figured it was better to get them done together and only have to have one operation, one recovery, etc....

Some say they like the look better, I'm OK with it, and don't do the sorts of things that involve locker rooms and other 'public exposure' so don't really care what others might think.

Unless you want prosthetics I see no reason to keep the empty sack...
