Scam emails / blackmail
I've been receiving emails from people telling me I visit adult websites (presumably meaning this one) and they have pictures of me in a sexual act recorded on my webcam. I know it's a scam because they didn't name the website, or identifying details like my computer OS, and because I've never done the thing mentioned in the emails in front of my computer, and because they claim they have access to a microphone and a webcam now, neither of which my computer has. They do have the password, however, because it was included in a data leak. They are demanding payment to their Bitcoin account.
I've just been deleting the emails; since they have nothing on me, I know it's a scam. If you get this email, just delete it. I suggest you change your password, though, because this site isn't secure and a plain-text password can be intercepted very easily.

Everyone should put a piece of electrical tape over the cam on the top of their computer. Yes, people can photograph you through that media without your knowledge. So the best thing is to put tape over the cam.

Google the bitcoin address that is there, or part of that e-mail
That is pretty common scam. It is even funnier to get it on computer where there is no camera present

Re: Scam emails / blackmail
Basic premise - NEVER respond to any email that asks you for money, unless it is part of a transaction that YOU started...
NEVER use the log-in link provided in an email claiming to be from a place you do business with - if you really think the message might be genuine, use a link you already have / or did a search for yourself... Obviously ignore any message from banks or other places you do business with...
If an email says it's from the government, (at least in the US) other than involving a transaction you started, it is a SCAM....
I also agree with the suggestion to cover / disconnect cameras and microphones when not in use...
I would say that I do wish that EA used httpS instead of http, but I've been told by Paolo that there are reasons they don't - whether I agree with those reasons or not is irrelevant...

I got that one a year ago. Initially it made me uneasy, but it's the same scam over and over. You can safely ignore it. It's a scam designed to elicit an emotional response and drain money from you to protect yourself. Of course, I'm not embarrassed by my life. Worst that happens is people I have not wished to know I've freed Willy, find out I cut my dick off. So what? In the grand scheme of things, I take care of myself, am not out doing illegal things, etc. So let 'em post it if they have it.

Re: Scam emails / blackmail
Oh my goodness this is getting worrisome and frightening. Threatening emails and scammers like this infuriate me.
Luckily, I will soon have more money than I ever dreamed I would.... seems that there was this international banker who was carrying a suitcase full of cash for transfer to a Nigeian bank but he died in a plane crash... thanks to my confidential contact in the bank there, once I pay the $50,000 tranfer fees to get this unaccounted money sent to me, I will be so rich....
Sadly, there are actually people who fall for these scams. I really wish that our law enforcement agencies would go after these criminals.

How should any authorities ever be able to protect people from their own personal stupidity?
If things are too god to be true, they usually aren’t true.

Unfortunately, given how the government works - you do not want to see HOW they will do it. Everyone will suffer, no one will gain. We'll lose another set of freedoms along the line.
