That list is still useful, despite the questionable source. I was referred to one of those clinics by my therapist but its over a thousand miles away and crossing state lines. It seems like nationwide practice of these surgeries is still on the works.
The current political climate in much of the US may mean that yes, for the foreseeable future you WILL have to cross state lines and travel perhaps a thousand miles away to get the care you desire if you live in one of the affected states..
As I was saying to LT some weeks ago, and as he said it made him laugh, I will share this here as well.
The problem with SOC-8, I believe, is that it mislead people into thinking that it was going to change things overnight. It didn't. Here are a few things that SOC-8 didn't do, pro or con:
It didn't cause 'Castration Clinics' to pop up overnight like mushrooms in, say, empty gas station buildings. Or like the old KFC building in an episode of South Park.
It didn't trigger door-to-door castration salesmen running around, like the days of The Fuller Brush Man. Look that one up. I learned it from a Bugs Bunny cartoon.
It didn't cause pickup and return services, although some (like eye surgeons) do offer this, or arrange Ubers and such for customers. Yes, one still has to travel to the doctor.
As LT mentioned in another thread, "...but the children!" It didn't cause in-school castration programs via the school nurse. Don't worry, Junior isn't going to come home (much like in Archive story) and tell his parents that he had his balls pricked at recess.
And finally, it didn't get the mythical Castration Fairy (much like the Blue Fairy in Pinocchio) to magically appear in your home and castrate you, just because you wished for it. No, that lazy-ass, annoying cricket isn't going to call her up, either!
I agree with what it doesn't do (perhaps unfortunately?) but it seems to me that unless folks needing services that are in SOC 8, but not in SOC 7, keep banging on the doors of the existing TG centers and metaphorically whacking them in the genitals w/ a copy of SOC 8 (Of course that might help demonstrate to the male doctors certain advantages to getting ) and demanding them, the situation isn't going to improve...
There is a lot I don't like about the politics of MA, but at least in terms of SOC 8, they seem to be on the right track, and I'm glad of that.
