Re: November 2022 - New Stories
It is a pitty. Looking back I'm not happy with the title of my story "Going full time". If I had a chance (and energy) to do it again, I would call it "Henry is ripe and ready" and would dwell a bit more on Sam's perspective. Any thoughts from someone who has read the story?

Personally, I like the original title better. The whole story to me is what it takes to go "full time" at the ranch. Have not had the surgery - no fulltime position for you... it matters not if you came off the street or are the owners son. That the owners son gets castrated to be a fulltimer, was the point for me.

Re: November 2022 - New Stories
I tend to agree with LT... The story is about the decision to go 'full time' and what that means... While I wouldn't object to more about Sam's (or any other character's) thoughts, and so on, I think the story as it stands is a good one and doesn't really need any revisions... (IMHO A new and different story would be better if you want to write more....)
I don't worry a lot about titles though. My only mild wish is that connected stories had enough of a shared title to make them show up together in the story lists whether searching on title or author - i.e. "Fisher Ranch - a nice story", "Fisher Ranch - a different story" and so on...

Re: November 2022 - New Stories
Thanks for the feedback. Always great to read other perspectives on my work. I think I do have two further stories in this universe in me (one concerning Konstantin, Anna's brother from "A visit to the ranch"). I just haven't gotten to write them yet.

The easiest way to make that connection is to use the alpha search with the authors name. Of course, this relies on the author submitting everything under the same name, and if I've learned anything over the past *censored* years in these places, is that people use about 30 different names when interfacing with this subject. I seem to be a rare person who has been mostly consistent through the years. I've had this one on the EA for *censored* years... Saw no reason to change it even after I lost "them."
When I finished my nullo, I did experiment with a new name on basically every other site, and now I use it consistently. This site is the only one where I continue to use Losethem. Odds are if you see Losethem on another site, unless the thread/post is rather old at this point (about 10 years+), it's likely not me.
*Censored* used to protect the feelings of certain EA moderators who have been here longer than they anticipated.

Re: November 2022 - New Stories
I don't have any stories, but did change my handle when I went from being 'curious' to being fixed... The forum changed all the posts with the old name so I'm consistent here... I don't use this one anywhere else, but use the same different one just about everywhere else....
I agree with the alphabetical search being better for finding linked stories, most of the time - except when stories get taken over by other authors, or the author does name changes, and so on... While I wish that there was better connecting of linked stories, I'm enough of a realist to know that it ain't gonna happen...

Re: November 2022 - New Stories
In my case, when I started writing, I didn't set up for the stories to be interconnected, but it just kind of happened organically after the first one. I struggle when actions within a story kind of fall out of a coconut tree, that is why I invest some time in the set-up. And since this is very time consuming, I might as well use it many times, for the different scenarios I need to get out of my system in writing. The same thing applies to the characters. As an author you kind of feel for them. My four circumcision stories are interconnected, but also work as stand-alone pieces and so is with the rest. It is only after finishing "Appointment for two", that for me it became clear, that I needed to write Moritz's story. And once I had the ranch, "Going full-time" became a must. The odd-one out here is probably "The family dogs", but again, it works as stand-alone, but has a connection to the rest of the universe.
Cheers

Re: November 2022 - New Stories
Ordinary correspondents, for example, authors of articles in newspapers, magazines, etc., simply report on some events.
The reader is often interested in specific facts. Even often many want the message to be short.
With truly talented writers of fiction, it often happens that the heroes of his works are alive, express their thoughts, communicate and continue to live!
It is difficult for the reader to part with his favorite heroes.
You want the author to report details, for the story to continue and develop...

Re: November 2022 - New Stories
There are lots of different methods of writing, but it does seem that characters will often take on a life of their own... I was once very close friends with a pair of SF authors (now both deceased
) and they said that if a story was working, it was like they had created a good character and sat him down on top of their typewriter while he told them the story, and they just had to write it all down...
I've seen other authors say similar things about a character 'taking over' and turning the author into little more than a fancy dictation machine...
I think this is something that carries through into the finished works, in that when reading them you can see the story through the characters eyes... This is true whether it is in the EA stories or in the larger general world of commercial fiction...
It is one reason I tend to like the longer stories when well written as they give more room to get into the character's head and have more depth than the short ones. It is actually harder to write a GOOD short story where you can get a feel for what's driving the characters in the actions of the story....
