Scrotal or Inguinal Removal?

Post by dickbulova (imported) »

This has probably been mentioned before, just don't find it. Advantages v. disadvantages of scrotal v. inguinal castration? Don't want to feel a stub down there, and would like to have a smooth appearance. But I understand the inguinal approach is more intrusive and painful. Appreciate your thoughts.

Basically as you describe it... Scrotal is faster and easier, less invasive surgery, with a much faster recovery time, and arguably lower risk of complications, but leaves some amount of the cords behind. However a good surgeon will make the cut as high on the cords as possible so the stubs mostly end up inside, so not a huge problem.... Scrotum removal is a fairly easy option for the surgeon to do as part of the procedure since he is already cutting on it... Recovery is pretty fast and there isn't a lot of activity restriction.

Inguinal is very invasive and involves cutting a lot of muscles and other tissues, it is very similar to a hernia repair, and has similar recovery times and activity restrictions while recovering, more pain, etc...

If you do some Startpage searches, you can find videos of both procedures, produced by medical schools, etc., which will give you a good idea of what's involved in each...

From all I've seen, they will want to do inguinal if you have a suspected testicular cancer diagnosis, but if not you probably really don't want to go that route....

This is assuming you are just getting rid of the balls, I'm not sure how things change if going for a nullification, but given that it can be more invasive to begin with, it might not be a big deal for doing inguinal...

I had a one-sided inguinal orchi for testicular cancer and five years later a scrotal orchi for gender affirmation.

Inguinal orchi left me with a large scar that is still quite obvious seven years later and ilioinguinal nerve damage that caused numbness on my thigh and the base of my genitals that took years to (mostly) recover. Inguinal orchi is the gold standard for testicular cancer because it minimises the risk of spread to pelvic lymph nodes.

Scrotal orchi healing time was around three weeks. I had a standard raphe incision. I was worried about the scrotal orchi leaving a stub, and I was able to feel something for a year or so, but now two years later I do not feel any remnants down there. My surgeon removed as much as he could and I guess any cord remnants have atrophied. I had no complications or numbness from my scrotal orchi.

In retrospect after having the Scrotal approach done for my Orchiectomy and the subsequent issues with pain, lots of which came from the stumps of the cords living in my Scrotum due to swelling, seepage from the Scrotal incision and other thoughts.

I'd have opted for the Inguinal approach if given the option.

And therein lies the answer to your question; you will not be given a choice. Inguinals are only done in cases of suspected or confirmed Cancer and if that's the case, you will not be given the choice of a Scrotal approach.

Kind of makes the question mute doesn't it?

I had wanted inguinal as I thinks the scars are rather sexy and really show that you have lost something without harming the scrotal skin. Unfortunately I was told by the urologist that they only do inguinal for confirmed cancer of the testicles. I got the bilateral orchiectomy done through the scrotum and thanks to the fantastic work of the urologist, I didn't have an issue with "berries" hanging out of the inguinal canals. That being said, my pubic region was rather puffy for more than a year and I had to endure the cord ends squishing around in there as I did my yoga. Now a year and two months since my orchiectomy I don't notice them any more and my pubic region no longer looks as puffy. Hope that helps!

When mine was done my doctor just told me he would be removing them via an incision in the middle of my scrotum.

I never knew, at that time that there was another method.

After I did discover that there was an inguinal option I asked why he did the scrotum method.

He explained that inguinal was primarily for cancer patients, was more complicated, had more risks, and since I did not have cancer getting insurance to cover it would be an issue.

Fortunately I had no complications after all healing was done.

However to this day I do feel the cords that remain on the right side, and sometimes there is a slight hurt, but not pain, condition.

In addition when I massage the cord mass it feels as if it is coming from the testicle that is gone, a phantom feeling, which is quite nice so I don't mind.

Massaging the cord mass is slightly erotic, but all that does is give me an edging kind of feeling.

I am totally impotent, completely, have no libido, except that I do know the equipment works as I sometimes wake up with an early morning hard on.
