How to get prescribed Dutasteride or Finasteride

Post by mando2k22 (imported) »

Hi folks. I'm 40 and seeking lower sex drive leading to who knows where at this stage.

I am interested in chemical first.

As it happens I have issues with night urination and not emptying so I recently had to see a urologist who prescribed Flomax.

I'd like to (for a number of reasons) move to the next stage and go on Duta or Fina (plus maybe tamsulosin) for 6 months to a year to see how it goes.

Am I right in thinking - worst case scenario I suppose it does just what it's supposed to and my prostate shrinks for a few years and urination moves more in a normal direction?

Best case would probably be the same but with reduced sex drive, impotence, shrinkage and maybe less MPB...

Question is, at my next consultation how to I push to go to this step, given my age and also that I have not tried any other flow related solutions...?

Welcome to the Archive...

Pretty much anything relating to getting castrated falls under the 'transgender' umbrella, and to do things under medical care (which is strongly recommended) is most likely going to involve dealing with the same system. While urologists can be involved in the 'plumbing' issues, chemical castration is more of an endocrinologist question, and most will want to involve a Transgender Center as those docs are the specialists with the right expertise...

Currently the official bible of the TG world is the WPATH SOC 7, which essentially only deals with those wanting to do a full binary M<>F gender swap. However there has been a lot of work done (with help from several of the members here) on a new SOC 8, which we are told will be released 'Real Soon Now' (My personal bet is that it will be at a major conference that WPATH will be having in a few months) however draft versions have been pretty widely circulated and any good TG center should be well aware of what is in it...

The Draft SOC 8 has a lot of changes in terms of reducing the number of hoops one has to go through in general, and has a new chapter specifically on eunuchs, and among other things, it specifically recommends a minimum 6-12 month trial on chemical castration before any surgery....

So basically I'd suggest reaching out to whatever TG center there may be in your area, and start talking with them...

This is the route I'm on currently, and I've found it very easy... (Note that the docs may pick different drugs, but you'll end up w/ similar results...)

My regular doctor prescribed Finasteride for me with no issue. When I asked about Dutasteride, I was told it has to be prescribed by a specialist doctor.

Neither Dutasteride nor Finasteride will lower sex drive though.
