Trying to get preventative prostate removal

I am trying to get my prostate removed as a preventative / precautionary measure due to a massive family history of prostate cancer (and breast cancer which is linked).

The pandemic has delayed that, I think.

Does anyone have any advice on how to convince a urologist I am serious about pursuing removal instead of just monitoring until there is a problem?

Well, after a few tense years of wait-and-watch i've been getting some bad results in my PSA testing, biopsies and scans. The preventative prostate removal is set for the October 10th. They think they've caught it in time, though.

Anyhow, that's the answer to the "why would you consider such a radical procedure" question, to avoid getting cancer and the risk of it spreading from my prostate into other organs.

I'll do an update post-op' and tell you all how it goes.

I had prostate removed 3 years ago and am enjoying the dry orgasms.

I haven't had much in the way of erections since though.

But haven't suffered from too much in the way of bladder leak,

I am recovering after the operation. I have a catheter in for a week, then go back in to hospital to see if my urethra has healed up properly. (Long story short but the prostate is between the bladder and urethra, so they need to connect the urethra to the bladder after removing the prostate).

That'll be the hardest part of the recovery. After that I have four weeks to rest and recuperate, and work on exercises to restore / regain / retrain bladder control.

Then after that I get to discover what long term impacts i'll have to my sexual function (though I have resolved to make the best of it and enjoy the outcome).

So far the main thing I have been feeling is relief, i've had the prostate cancer risk looming over me for so long...now it's gone it's like good news every time I think about it now.

But yes, it's not like this was a simple and safe day procedure. Then again going through the same procedure with active cancer (and no guarantee it hadn't spread in the meantime) and thus much worse health would have been much more rough. So I am doubly relieved that the warning signs were spotted early enough for all of this to happen now.

All in all "so far so good" and i'll try to give another update after the catheter comes out. ^_^

The catheter is out, which is a huge relief.

Everything went unusually well in the areas I hoped it would. Topping the list, my bladder control is unusually good. Well that's likely second-top after "no medical complications". Next the recovery seems to be going well...I am still a patchwork of incisions and stitches...but the soreness is much reduced. Tomorrow is the two-week anniversary of the operation so it's all early-days yet.

I'm not sure if it's because it's so soon after the operation or a sign of long term stuff, but I can't get erect. It's weird that that was the big focus for most people, and I kind-of don't really mind?

I've been able to orgasm, it wasn't much harder than before, and it was a dry-orgasm. No pre' and no cum. It's oddly appealing, I appreciate the neatness.

As a denizen of EA I suppose i'm a lot more open to these things than a normal male would be. ^_^

So...I am in good health and good spirits. Still awaiting the pathology results. It's a rare early sample for the specialist too, since most guys try to keep the prostate as long as medically possible. Maybe it'll even help with early detection? Who knows.
