How many people know in fact their karyotype?

Post by Frida G Cavic (imported) »

When we born usually the doctor says It´s a boy or a girl, only by seeing our genitalia ,assuming that not only our gender (psicologically) but even our genetic sex is of a man or a female, but actually very few people know their karyotype we just assume that is XY or XX, and In part I understand that this study is done only when genetic issues appear, but It´s no so extensive so the large part of the people (I suppouse) assume without really knowing that their karyotype is XX or XY although there is many other conditions as XXY I dont know the mine and I hadnt think about it until my doctor suggested the test the last year. I havent done the test yet but i´m curious about that, Who knows maybe I get a surprise wiht the results or maybe not, and I don´t know how many people here in the forum know their karyotype indeed,????

Thanks for the thread.

I have never been tested but, based on normal puberty, etc. I assume I am XY. As you point out, nobody really knows.

Yes, and this could be a surprise for some people for example the case of a man that discovered that his karyotype is in fact XX or a woman who learned that her karyotype is XY, without any other phenotypically sign, and other conditions as XXY or XYY, although most of this cases come along other genetic problems other could be unnoticed until some problem, as infertility for example, appears,

Mine is XY. It was tested by the endocrinologist I asked for (and who DIDN'T prescribe me with) estradiol. But there's more to sex than chromosomes and genetics. A lot of cases of partial/minimal androgen insensitivity cannot be detected at this time (or are never tested for). Neuroendocrinology around sex and gender is a new and little poled field. And there's things not even discovered yet.
