Of those first 400, or so, only five are still active members: Charrett, Kristoff, Paolo, Quillman, and Talula. By the end of 2001, there were over 1500 members of the Eunuch Archive. Only 15 of them are still active -- those original five, plus A-1, Bella, Colin, Dave, EunuchSF, Gerslave, me, kkks, Littledick, and Losethem. The most recent new member, as I write this, is Onlooker, number 120,801.
I was surprised to find I was in the top 12 of long-term folks. And Jesus is right behind me, we signed up about the same time. And like Krister, I have a 3 digit number as my user ID.
Re: Origin of Eunuch Archive
I think mine is 254. We had a lot of glitches in the past, which required reloads and some loss of data, so if you have a 3 digit number, you're definitely one of the old-timers!

Guess I'm a newbie joining 9-30-2011! I was a lurker of the board for several years before joining.

Re: Origin of Eunuch Archive
I've been here a vey long time. I think this is my second user id on the current system. I had a different one or poosibly two over the years before the big crash that led to the new archive being built and the old stories restored and whatnot. I have no idea how long I've been here though. At least 15 years and probably more. alt.binaries.eunuch comes to mind, so many more like 25 years give or take a decade if I'm right that the Usenet boards became the EA..

Hi everyone,
This is a topic I like.
Indeed, this communitt is unique. It is not unique due the content, but especially due to the athmosphere, politeness, helpfulness.
This is very rarely seen.
As a member since 2002 (which number ??
) this site always followed me during my growing up.
It helped me, or better you all helped me.
I say a big thank you +++
Take care, Vesal.

Re: Origin of Eunuch Archive
This thread awakens some nostalgic feelings in me. I had a look in my comprehensive email archive and found a welcome message from Eunuch Archive Message Boards from Dec. 2005 (with a different login). And the archive search turned up an old post from that account in 2008 about tattoos. I re-joined in 2013 and finally 2016, when things finally got serious for me. Unbelievable where all that time went.
But I actually posted a link to eunuch.org in alt.eunuch.questions as early as Oct. 1999, so at least this domain must have existed back then. Maybe not the message boards. My email archive is very fragmentary before 2000 due to a stolen laptop.

I've have been here since early 2000 posting but with a different moniker...often cute, sometimes clever....occasionally just plain annoying.

I think the EA rose from alt.eunuchs.questions, but isn't the same thing. I think what happened is you had a user decide the then, old, text only architecture of alt.eunuchs.questions wasn't as useful as the GUI we have here, which was the modern thing when the EA came online. I lament the seeming loss of these types of forums in favor of chat boards (strangely, everything old is new again on that one), where you can't go back and look through topics or history. If it hasn't happened on those in the last week, odds are you won't see it. This is going to make the ongoing research into our community suffer, and delay the official recognition of us in the medical community.

I haven't even thought about the old Usenet system in years! Last I heard, you had to have a client like Agent to access it, and then a subscription to some service like Giganews to read it.
Didn't Google buy the Usenet some years ago?
