I went to Costco last night. There was a section closed off while they brought a forklift out to bring stuff off the top shelves. They usually never do this while the store is open.

A group of shoppers gathered around the cordon, waiting. When the forklift was done, the barrier came down, and the mass of humanity descended on the bottled water and stripped it like a bunch of locusts.

I sat off on the side watching, thinking to myself, “The water never shut off in Wuhan, morons!”

The toilet paper was gone too. What I noticed is nobody was stockpiling food. This left me wondering what they were going to use all that toilet paper for.

I have an image of people a week from now, sitting at their dinner table due to fear of going outside, sitting down to their meal of toilet paper and bottled water.

What is it with the arse wipes.

Silly people perhaps someone ought to tell them that it doesn't give then the shits.

I had thought of putting my stock on ebay and should anyone ask "What is the buy it now price"

I would suggest £1000 as a starting point. 😄

Just hang on to your old newspapers for a bit is my answer.

Seen on Reddit:

It's stupid to boycott ethnic restaurants over fear of COVID-19. It doesn't work that way; it's not e. coli.

However, until the toilet paper crisis is past, it is wise to avoid eating at Taco Bell!

I am just glad that spring is coming. I'm hoping it's a good season, as I'm planting a much larger garden than ever before.

I'm with LT on the whole hoarding thing. I saw the same thing here last night, and there are currently no reported cases in this county. Or the surrounding ones. No bleach, Lysol products, toilet paper, or anything sanitizing. Then the pet foods were hardest hit. Yet the grocery aisles were full. Bread, milk, eggs, you name it. Fine.

I would recommend white washrags and a bucket of warm, soapy water in case of no toilet paper, but for cleaning, you can't seem to get bleach to clean the rag, so that's tough. I often joke that I have leftovers from the 2012 scare still, but I really don't. I was not afraid of the Mayan calendar; I was afraid of those who were afraid of it!

I'm really worried about trying to the normal, weekly grocery shopping tomorrow. I really am. I was in the local Kroger tonight just to grab a couple of things that I'd missed last week, and it was stupidity. It's like Black Friday, all day, every day it seems.

We'll see how it turns out, and not to get political, but I don't see this going well given the low mental state of the average US citizen.

I read an interesting point that in challenging times a lot of people feel better trying to control something they can control. Hoarding toilet paper is a type of control. It has nothing to do with reality and everything to do with some core need. As a proctologist once said, this too shall pass.

🍑👋They've finally started on the canned and dry goods here: rice, beans, pasta, etc. Before, I was wondering if they were all eating pet foods, as that was next. Still no toilet paper, Lysol, etc. 🙋However, there are plenty of baby wipes and Handi-Wipes. Also the soft car shop towels that mechanics use. Some of this stuff is washable, too, but ... good luck finding bleach. I suppose anti-bacterial lemon dish soap would suffice for washing the rag. It's not corn season, though, so no corn cobs! Those in the field now are too mooshy to use! LOL 😄

Some time ago, I started saving glass jars (pickle jars, etc) and filling them with rice and beans in 'dry canning' just for kicks. That, and I a suspicion that I might need it. However, I only bought 1 bag of something each week.

Stopped by Wal-Mart tonight on the way home, and it was chaos. Friday night is always hectic, but there were a lot of workers on duty. Sad thing is, they didn't have much stuff to bring out. I'd imagine that toilet paper is probably up for auction on Ebay right now.

Friend's daughter from CO called this morning, said that at 5AM, the stores like CostCo were literally empty of EVERYTHING.

Anyone else seeing big panic buying in your area?

My grandfather gave me a few boards of shares way, way back in the 70's and 80's that are still kept in my dad's name (I was a little kid who showed interest in the idea of the markets). Those shares were in Scott Paper. Guess who makes toilet paper? :)

Thankfully, the community I live in isn't behaving like retarded greedy-goats and our shelves are full. Please, don't tell the cityfolk :o

I’m glad I sat this out. I have a week off that I was going to NC to help my elderly parents to start their downsize move, and they asked me not to come. That’s frustrating. But, I’ve stayed well stocked for the last eight years.

I just so happened to start “prepping”, not because Obama, but I broke my ankle and I was without pay for ten weeks. I ran out of both money & food. Like Scarlet O’Hara said, “As God is my witness, I will never go hungry again!”, and I haven’t.

I’ve made sure that if something or anything happens, I don’t want to have to want. I’m redundant. I have two riding mowers and two push mowers, for instance. Only one tractor though. Campfire cooking grates for the fireplace, cast iron pots and pans. 200 gallon rainwater collection tanks, and etc. If I might have need for something, I make sure I keep it stocked on hand. That includes lots of food and water. And yes. I’ve got a two storage cabinets full of toilet paper. Ha!

They’re unique cabinets that are wedges behind the shower. I saw that a six pack would neatly fit on the shelves, so it became a game to fill them up. It took me a few months just buying double, but I now have 180 rolls stored away. lol!

The only thing I got today was 16 gauge ammo. It’s an uncommon bore these days and I got concerned about a run on bullets again. It’s a new gun and I only had two boxes as it is. I got it because I used to carry my Grandaddy’s 16 gauge. Plus, I do have land if I ever feel like shooting here. I’ve only shot an armadillo, but I’ve got lots of game here.

I think being raised by my Grandparents, who were teens in the depression, had a huge effect on me. Plus, the Boy Scouts Be Prepared. Maybe I’m just practical. I have no illusions about muh evil gubment. Though, there are plenty of two legged predators around.

People are acting nuts right now.
