My testicle was removed. Question regarding healing.

Last week, the doctors removed one of my testicles last week through the scrotum. I am really excited to have had it removed!

A large fist size hematoma has formed where they took the one out. The doctors say that it should reabsorb and break down eventually. Have any of you had this complication when you had one or both of yours removed? What was your experience? How long did it take to go away?

Unfortunately, the doctor doing my castration missed a bleeder when he was closing up. I ended up with blood bruising from chest to knees. A new surgeon removed 350 CC of coagulated blood from my scrotum. At first another doctor told me it would reabsorb and pass, so I went to someone else, because it would not pass. Don't hesitate to get another opinion.

My doctor put in drains so that this wouldn't happen.Drains stayed in for a week.

I had both mine removed at the same time and like GordonGG, my physician put in two penrose drains one in each side and they were there for 4 days. Rather than the suggested supporter, I took adult undergarments and I'm glad I did. Lots less hassle and I could not believe how much drainage I was getting from those drains especially the first night.

They were removed when the drainage basically stopped. I did get some significant swelling afterward and everyone is different about how much swelling you might experience. As for the "reabsorbed" treatment, I'm not an MD but call BS on that one, get another opinion.

I guess you were around 24 when you joined the community in 2014. If you don’t mind I’m wondering how you decided to go ahead with what I’m guessing was a fantasy to have one of your balls removed. I realize you’re healing now and have serious questions for the older guys on here, but I am interested in learning more about your situation and how you chose this, if in fact it was optional and not medically necessary.

Yes after I was castrated, I had a hematoma the size of a cantaloupe where my scrotum is. It wasn't a pretty sight to see, but given a few months it did break down and shrink in size. It was so big that it popped the stiches on my incisions leaving big Silver dollar size openings. All healed up ok thank goodness. Just keep it clean and give it time.

I didn't have a whole lot of drainage. First couple of days I wore a womens pad over it. After that, just about 6 layers of toilet paper did the job. I wonder if it has anything to do with the skills of the surgeon. Did mine find more "bleeders" and cauterize them?

Yes, it happened to me and it will go away eventually, it just takes time. A few weeks probably, depending on it's size. Nothing to worry about.

It should go away like any bruise does with time. Ice packs help and also a scrotal sling. However I guess I was very fortunate as I had no swelling or bruising to speak of.

I'd call that a bingo with it being Dr. Arnkoff in my case.

On the other hand, any of them can make a mistake as we're all human. During my nullification procedure, my surgeon missed a bleeder when closing. Evidently when they put you completely out, your blood pressure drops quite a bit and stays there until you start coming out of the anesthesia. Then your blood pressure returns to more normal pressures. I had just woke up in my room after being in recovery for who knows how long and I was really hurting in the pubic area. So they started looking and decided in short order that I had a bleeder and it was back to surgery. They theorized that a clot had formed in the vein while my BP was low, and it blew out as my pressure came back up to normal levels.

When they started to move me, it really hurt and one of the nurses said "I'll give you some Dilaudid". I didn't make it out the door before going out. So they took me back to surgery, found the bleeder and cauterized it, removed most of the blood in my abdomen and sent me to recovery.

First couple of days, regular pain meds were pretty much standard with quite a bit of swelling. When the swelling started to go down, I tapered off the pain meds and by a week post op, I was off those.

It all turned out really clean and I'm totally happy with the apperance of things. Moral of the story; I believe some errors are due to lack of skills/knowledge, others can be attributed to "shit happens" is what I told the surgeon as he was apologizing all over the place for what happened. As I've said for a long time; the difference between an amateur and a professional is that the professional knows how to fix his mistakes since we all make mistakes.
