Your Shingles Vaccine (Shingrix) Experience

The CDC is recommending that everyone over the age of 50 get the Shingrix vaccine. Nothing is perfect. Yet, Shingrix is the best (and only option) to help prevent an outbreak of shingles.

I am 100% PRO VACCINE and am not interested in pseudoscientific anti-vaxxer posts. I am current on all my adult vaccines. I think my tetanus shot might be a few years out of date. But all my other vaccines are documented as current including flu (just got it three weeks ago), pneumonia, tdap (like I said a few years behind), HepA, HepB, and a few others I can't think of right now.

I had previously received the older shingles vaccine. The recommendation is to get the new Shingrix version even if you have had the older shingles shot.

I both expected and was warned about bruising, fever, feeling rundown and muscle and joint pains. Both the pharmacist that gave me the vaccine and the paperwork said to expect these symptoms for about 2 to three days.

My Shingrix inoculation caused those symptoms for at least five maybe six weeks.

Still, better than the shingles (which I've had and it was one of the most painful experiences of my life). So, feeling rundown for a couple of months isn't a bad tradeoff.

I'd like to know two things. First, has anyone had the same lengthy reaction to the Shingrix vaccine?

More importantly, what was your reaction to the 2nd (or booster) vaccination? I've read everything from the reaction is about the same, it's much less for the second shot, all the way to it's far worse for the 2nd injection.

The Shingrix vaccine is said to be 95% effective after the first injection and 98% after the 2nd shot. That extra 3% doesn't sound like much but, given how horrible shingles is, I'll take the extra protection.

Has anyone had the boother (2nd injection) of Shingrix and what was you experience in terms of it being the same, easier or worse?

Yes and it was about the same couple of days. Judging by the people I know who got shingle, its worth now thats its over

I'm not a supporter of any kind of medical care, so I won't be getting it. My answer to skin issues is to get drunk, rake the area raw, and pour gasoline on it. And yes, I've done it before! Don't know if it'd work for shingles, but it sure clears up other rash issues.

I got it at the VA in New Jersey last year, it was the two part vaccine, I didn't have any reaction. I don't remember experiencing any ill feelings. That's me.

I got the vaccine last year and had no problems with side effects. I get the flu vaccine every year and have never had any side effects and I've not got the flu since I started getting them. I had the pneumonia vaccine once and don't know if I need to get it again and now I know I need to get some other vaccine just mentioned that I didn't know I needed. I believe in everybody getting vaccines look at polio and a couple years ago measles was on the way out until the ant vaccine idiots made it come back.

I went today and had my immunizations checked and all I needed to get was the pneumonia vaccine now I'm all up to date

I'm in he 3rd week of recovery from shingles, Holy fuk! Mine wasn't even that bad? A palm size area on my right pec and shoulder blade. Kidney stones take abit of beating, lol
