Riven, it sounds like you are on the right track. Your prostate is shrinking, no spontaneous erections, lower sex drive, smaller penis and testicles, etc. A NORMAL man should be in complete control of his sex drive and not get spontaneous erections. Just my honest and straightforward opinion. Keep up the good work and the best of luck to you with your goals. I've heard of lots of good experiences with Finasteride.

Despite her saying she is behind whatever I decide to do about my BPH, I was beginning to feel that my girlfriend deserves a sex life so last week I stopped taking Finasteride. I might resume taking it if/when my BPH symptoms trouble me again. In the meantime, hot flushes have stopped and my interest in sex has returned. Penis is still very sleepy.

FYI, Dutusteride works much better at lowering DHT. They both work by preventing the conversion of T to DHT which means your T level will go up since it’s not getting converted.

I was more randy, if less stiff, on finasteride… The final stack was T-cypionate, finasteride, and arimidex. Worked well, kept me feeling good. Trying to get the stack straightened back out; I’ve gotten girlier hips since being put back on T-cyp without the side-effect managing drugs.

Getting rid of DHT is actually more important than getting rid of testosterone out of the two. DHT is called testosterone times ten. It causes lots of the undesirable effects that many men experience such as baldness, excessive body hair growing in unusual and embarrassing places, prostate problems including painful enlargement and even cancer, etc. That is why castration is so effective. It gets rid of both. DHT develops from testosterone as men age. So castration kills two birds with one stone. Certain forms of chemical castration do also. Medroxyprogesterone is one of them. It can be taken either orally or by injection. Injections act much quicker but are more expensive. The pill form usually takes about a couple of months to completely lower your testosterone level to an extremely low level so it does require some patience as two months can seem like a long time.

Thanks guys. My objective isn't to eradicate my sex drive and erections: I was focussed on that when my late wife was undergoing cancer treatments and couldn't engage in sexual activities like she used to, but that was long ago, in the mid 00s. Today, I have benign prostate enlargement and want to deal with the symptoms (difficulty with urination). Back in the summer (2019) I was diagnosed with BPH and tried Tamsulosin (an Alfa-blocker) to help me 'pee'. It worked, but made me feel faint (dizzy) so I stopped taking it. I decided to go on Finasteride and it's castrating effects soon reduced my interest in sex and stopped my penis from reaching full erection. This was not helpful to me and girlfriend as we like sex and want to have more. I stopped taking Finasteride over two weeks back and my sex drive in increasing but my penis is still rather lazy - I can get hard now, but it doesn't have much stamina, and I still haven't had a morning erection since I started on Finasteride. My girlfriend says we must be patient. We'll see the urologist on Dec 24th and will chat with him about all the surgical options as well as asking him about the effects of long term Finasteride. My bladder is starting to 'play up' again, so I might be going back on the Finasteride again before long. Someone here said that 'orchiectomy + testosterone replacement' is a good alternative as it doesn't cause the prostate to grow. Anyone got any ideas or info on that?

Have you tried viagra or cialis? I occasionally take a cialis if I want to monitor how much my penis has shrunk. Works like a charm and without it I never have full erections (and don't want them).

Yes, I have Viagra (sildenafil) and it does help. If there is no arousal and beginnings of an erection the viagra doesn't make it erect. But if the the penis is trying to become erect some viagra in the blood stream helps it become fuller.
