Can You Ever Forgive Me (2018)

First let me say that I’m not a Melissa McCarthy fan, however she does a great job playing Lee Israel, a writer and published author, a great success in the 70’s and 80’s and suddenly, an author who fell out of favor due to the whims and vagaries of the Publishing world in the 90’s

And so Lee Israel turned herself into parody of a crabby, miserable, starving, behind on the rent, lesbian bitch. (more)

And McCarthy’s fun to watch as she discovers that creating “augmented” letters of the Rich and Famous and selling them to collectors is a lucrative scam. After all, people pay money for their film idols’ sentimental memorabilia.

AND SO: Lee Israel teams up with an aging homosexual and together they take the literary memorabilia world for thousands while paying their rent, feeding themselves, and cleaning up their financially deprived lives. Eventually the FBI is called in and Lee Israel ends up in court. Her admission to the court is so much fun because she really never expressed regret for creating fakes.

I thought this was going to be a “sit in front of the TV with the computer and play games and read news stories while watching a boring movie” movie, but this really wasn’t that.

I had fun watching a miserable lesbian bitch in an existential crisis

A woman after my own rotten little heart 😄
