I still wonder why I found the movie “The Favorite” so fascinatingly bitchy and fun in a black comedy way… I should hate this movie. It’s all plot and character, no action, three women seeking sex, power, dominion, and other things, but it’s entertaining and engrossing.

It's historical gossip.

“The Favorite” is set in 1708 when Queen Anne of Britain is in poor health and rules the Kingdom of England through Sarah Churchill - - her advisor, confidant, furtive love, and pet rabbits - - and in steps Abigail, the third in what becomes a love triangle about “ruling as blood sport” for the attention of the queen.

It is delightfully engrossing and lots of fun as the two “advisors” plot against each other to be prime advisor and “real power” behind the throne of England. This is British Royalty misbehaving terribly much to the audience’s great enjoyment.
