I've been to the beach a lot lately and one worry I had was flesh eating virus like they keep reporting at South Florida beaches. I'm in Charleston which is several hundred miles away. Still, all I could think was how ironic after all the crap I've posted to EA that I would become national news with "21-year-old man loses penis to flesh eating virus." Not really how I want to be known for or remembered by my exes.
Thanks for all the input, except the penis cancer comment. I'm just glad he's all back to normal today.
Rog,
Glad you are back to normal. I know you don't normally put Willy Wonka into the chocolate factory but, I'm still thinking an appointment with a doc for routine blood work and an STD checkup would be a very good idea.
I know, I know 21-year-old men are immortal and never need to see a doctor. However, some STDs (which can be cured really easily), can appear, retreat, appear again and then show up years later. I simple blood test can tell the doctor if a simple injection in your butt cheek is required.
Also, on your checkup list should be vaccine boosters:
- Hep A Vaccine
- Hep B Vaccine
- HPV Vaccine (they are now recommending it much later in life than before - plus, it doesn't hurt to get a booster even if you've already had it)
- MMR (at your age, you are most likely already documented. Still, getting the booster won't hurt. With outbreaks around the country a booster is a good idea)
- Flu (it's too early just now. By the time the doc sees you, the 2019 season flu shots will be in)
- Shingles or Chickenpox (it's the same vaccine.)
- A Hep C Test. There is no vaccine for Hep C. There is a cure for it. So, getting tested makes sense
- A full STD workup. Yeah, yeah. I know you have a 99.9% "no glove no love" policy on condom use but, still, it doesn't hurt to get the tests as long as they are drawing blood anyway.
Many primary care doctors are not stocking vaccines any longer because they are so easy to get at Walgreens or CVS. Sill, the doctor can recommend which you should get.
Believe it or not, at 21, you still need your last physical from your pediatrician. Of course, most men don't do the annual checkups with the pediatrician after they turn 18 but, most pediatricians want an annual checkup until age 21 and then they hand you over to an adult primary care doctor.
Little-dick, big-dick, shaved or trimmed pubes, circumcised or uncircumcised, fit or never seen the inside of the gym - none of that matters. To a doctor, it's just another physical and they won't remember any of that as soon as they wash their hands and go into the next exam room.
Rog, you deserve to feel 100% sure that this was nothing. If it turns out to have been nothing, the worst that comes of it is you get a baseline on your bloodwork for the next exam. If it turns out to still be hiding in your blood - there's a cure for it.
The doctor isn't going to want to cut your randy righteous rigging off, he'll just want to make it safe.
