My castration went badly the doctor removed my remaining testicle on the left side and I got a major infection killing alot of the skin I've been going to wound clinic for it for 12 weeks now and it's still not healed I have a big hole where my testicle was that has been healing leaving a crater also my penis on that side looks like it's half cut off. What kind of surgeon do I have to find to remove the scrotum and fix my penis so I look some what normal again. Any help is greatly appreciated. Depressed member

Re: Help needed
If I were you, I would look for a dr specializing in wound care who handles wounds that fail to heal or heal too slowly. There are treatments made for such wounds that you should seek an expert to provide for you. Since the groin and scrotum are so close to the major arteries and nerves of both legs and all of your abdominal organs, infections in that Area can be especially dangerous and damaging. After so much time, and it not being healed now, seek out a wound care specialist. Then after you are safe from any infection it would then be time to find a urologist or a plastic surgeon to repair your penis and groin area. But doing any further surgery with no healing from your first surgery would be risky. Heal up first, then get the repair surgery . Or see the penis repair surgeon to ask what timing would be best in your case. Good luck and get well.

Re: Help needed
I've been seeing a wound care doctor for 12 weeks he had to do surgery 13 weeks ago to clean up all the dead tissue I've stopped healing 3 weeks ago and he's been trying different treatments to get it to heal he took a culture Monday and I will see him two weeks from then. I'm just trying to figure what kind of doctor I needed to see to fix it.

Re: Help needed
How is your healing progressing compared to what your wound care dr has predicted ? Are things healing on the expected plan, or not healing up as your dr had planned ?
If things are not healing up as well as your wound dr has planned and predicted, you can always see another wound care dr for a second opinion and any other treatment ideas that might be worth researching or trying with a new wound care dr.

Re: Help needed
He's never gave me a time line he always said 3-4 more weeks but last week the wound got bigger and he was concerned he took a swab and changed my packing material to something else. He thought I might have an infection and I told him I was on an antibiotic already. When I first started this I was in the hospital for 5 days with IV antibiotics and they changed them 3 times and after I got out the wound clinic doctor gave me another antibiotic because he had done a swab when I was in the hospital. It's going to be 16 weeks since he had to do debridement of the wound because it all died and was infected. I'll see him a week from next Monday.

Re: Help needed
Any time you experience any major change in your condition, you should see your dr right away. It sounds like you should be seen by your wound care dr right away if your wound got much larger last week. It also sounds like your wound infection should be cultured in petri dishes to find out exactly what combination of drugs are necessary to kill all of the different infectious organisms in there at the same time. You might need a combination of different drugs to simaltaniously kill many different kinds of germs that each need different antibiotics at the same time to kill them all at the same time. After this long of infection, playing whack a mole with one antibiotic at a time is foolish. Your dr needs to take multiple swabs from your entire wound, culture all of them in petri dishes, and try different antibiotics in those petri dishes to figure out what combination of antibiotics will finally kill all of these to allow your wound to heal. Or see another wound care specialist and explain that your current and past care has failed to end your infections. You need to kill this infection. The longer it stays infected, the worse it will become.

Re: Help needed
He already did that Monday and when I
he will let me know. I saw my urologist today the one who did the initial surgery and he looked at it and told me that when it's healed I have to wait a year before I can have reconstructive surgery to allow the blood vessels to re-establish good blood flow. I also found out that I don't have prostate cancer today wich was great news.
